At least I can understand the Suns letting McGee go although I wanted to keep him. There is only so much money to go around.

Three years at $21 million is a good chunk of change for a backup center.
Yup can't blame JaVale. He got security. And the Suns are looking out for their business.

If the Suns last season were willing to offer the 4-year max and Ayton's people didn't even try to listen, then this is an easy match decision.

FYI, I stopped following the team for about 6 or 7 years because of Sarver, and how bad the team got, Only started again about 2.5 years ago because I saw things about to turn around.
It wasn't for me a concern of how bad the team was. I perceived that some coaches and coaching staff figures, some of whom were Suns legends, had been treated callously. I was offended and had enough.

The interesting thing was: I was provoked to reflect and realize this only after the Suns cut loose a player who wasn't one of those: Eric Bledsoe. I was not particularly attached to Bledsoe as a player, but I was sentimentally attached to the 2013-14 Suns and Bledsoe happened to be the last remaining key player from it.

Honestly I can't even remember exactly what my last straw was, but I think it was some trade which was a horribly lopsided salary dump. I just remember thinking if the organization does not even care about winning, there is no point in watching, because they won't and I was right, it only got worse.

Letting Ayton go for money reasons alone would be another similar move, and is a pretty good sign things are about to get real bad again.

Here we go. Your move Suns. If the Suns let him walk for nothing the town will pull out the pitch forks and torches.

I think this means Gambo just called the Suns, and they are telling him they will match.

Or they're indicating to Indiana that they need to do better, or they won't get Ayton...

So can we trade him somewhere else like Utah in the next 8.5 hours?

Because I would do that even if the return isn't great just to screw Indianapolis. I suppose Ayton would have to agree, and he may not be willing to.
No because he’s not under contract. Ayton would have to agree to a sign and trade.

I wonder if the Suns will announce their intention to match and match the offer right away or let this drag on for 48 hours.
It's the Suns so of course they will drag. But they need to man up and match immediately. At some point the Suns got to stop being bottom tiers and act gutsy.

The Suns played nice with the Pacers on the TJ Warren trade and even included a 2nd round pick when they traded Jalen Smith for Torrey Craig.

Now it's time to play hardball.

It would take way more guts to let him walk for nothing.

i buy it. Sarver is already on the ropes for a lot of reasons, without him being blamed for an Ayton bust too

I hope he’s right
Wow. This is basically saying we will not let Indian have Ayton for this price. We will hold onto him and trade home Jan15.

Holy Crap! If true the org is saying….We still don’t want you as well Ayton.

James Jones had to know at some point the Pacers would do an offer sheet with no movement on a sign-and-trade.

Now does he really want to do a sign-and-trade or keep Ayton. I don't think he lets Ayton walk for nothing.

The offer sheet kills a sign and trade. Next window would be Jan 15th. Even then Ayton now gets some leverage back as he has to approve of any trade.

This could get ugly.

If they let him go for nothing.... that would be terrible mismanagement. IMO He is only 4 years into his career. He does not suck. For all the **** he takes around here, he is a good center. Around 4 to 7 in most rankings. If there is something so bad about him that they don't want him at that price.... What is it? It is a fair, free market contract IMO.

The Suns had 8.5 hours to do a sign and trade with the Pacers when this was first announced.

the Ayton walk scenario is not happening

the "internal matter' would have to be sooo beyond what the Lakers must live with Westbrook, the Nets must live with Kyrie and Ben Simmons. And it's not at all.

just a family squabble.

come training camp everyone, including Ayton will be talking team unity again and doing ridiculous handshakes, again

add that to my Book-It list

Except they aren’t really going SAY anything close to that.

No partner no opportunity. If the Pacers were the only team interests they obviously didn’t want to do it. They were calling their bet with the Suns thinking they could get him straight up.
