More reason to ignore him.By midseason we'll be rebuilding around Cam Payne, Cam Johnson and Jalen Smith so this place will be pretty dead without him when that happens.

I'm not doubting him, I'm suggesting this story is told from just one angle.
Sarver's wife's back rubs aren't that good.Posturing and BS, DA's agent doing his job.
Ayton WANTS to be here, best to not change that.
I'll give Sarver a pass till something happens.
This is what should happen from here on out.
Ayton: I want this much.
Sarver: Would you like that split between your Bahamian account and your Wells Fargo account?
Ayton: And I'm gonna need your wife to give me a backrub after every home game.
Ayton: And call me sir
Sarver: Done!
Sarver: Sir!

My bad, but in my defense you're not usually optimistic enough to suggest that Jalen would still be in the NBA in 2023.Not by midseason. For the 2023-24 season.

That's not at all uncommon. The flaw isn't giving game time to young players (even pretty raw players), it's drafting as poorly as we did during the McD days. Smith looks like a miss by JJ but we'll see. I don't share your fear that we will play him regular minutes to our detriment.Just like Chriss and Bender before him, it appears that Jalen Smith will be gifted a roster spot and playing time by default, whether or not he deserves them, since they aren't bothering to bring in anyone capable at the position.
It would have bugged the hell out of me when we were struggling to become relevant again. Now that we are? It's more just annoying and disappointing to hear. I am confident it gets worked out. This stuff would have made me nuts ten years ago. For some reason, it’s not. Even though I think what’s going on is stupid.
Weird.

I used to make this same point regularly but again, the league has changed. Since the advent of the one and done, the number of younger players entering the league has skyrocketed. Both are flaws. A winning culture requires accountability. That, in turn, requires that playing time be earned.
It looks like PHX wants to make sure Ayton is progressing and doesn't regress this season before offering a max.
Unless Ayton takes less, he will sign a max extension with PHX at some point before next season.

Every former player and former coach I've listened to on this subject says that nothing is more important for player development than actual game minutes (early in their development process). They still have to earn it in practice but the level of "earning it" is different than it used to be.
Some similarities yes but not the exact same circumstances. Joe wanted to be closer to home, Ayton is close to home. And for Joe, being the main man was more important than anything else (apparently).Or he will ask out, just like Joe Johnson did under the exact same circumstances.

He can do that if money if taking less is fine by him. No team except PHX can give him the most money on an extension. Hell, if Ayton really wants money he can get a super max like Doncic if he ends up on All NBA Team which is what he should be shooting for this year.Or he will ask out, just like Joe Johnson did under the exact same circumstances.

Minus the Super Max point, the same was true with Joe Johnson. It is why they worked out (or rather got worked in) a sign-and-trade.
I don't think so. It's not my strong suit but I'm pretty sure the Super Max is only part of the extra protection afforded teams when they try to entice rookie contract players to re-sign.
And that is no longer the case. The extra benefits of re-signing your own off of a rookie contract are not tradable. The Suns could offer Joe Johnson more than any other team. It is why they worked out a sign-and-trade with Atlanta - So Joe Johnson could get the bigger contract the Suns could offer him while going to Atlanta, where to sign outright he would have had to take less.
