With the Titans, Fins & possibly more wanting a crack at Manning, I think the Cards shot is like betting the worst pony at the nearest race track...though longshots happen:D

1) 2 more visits at least, which pushes the timeframe until Thurs or Friday IMO.

2) Kolbs roster bonus is due Friday. IMO I see no way they toss him to the street on an assumption Manning will sign with the Cards. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see it.

3) Cap space. Why haven't we made a move yet? Other teams can give Peyton what I think he wants, his guys. I believe Wayne or Garcon along with Clark will be signed with whomever Peyton signs with.

It looked like we had a very good chance, but these extra visits really will put a cramp in the time frame, unless Manning gets busy ASAP. It's a critical decision by PM & I think he will weigh all his options & who wouldn't. He's being recruited all over again just like his HS days & this is his last ever shot at a Super Bowl & contract.

I said on another thread last week I thought the instability on the Oline & cap issues would cost us Manning, now there's another reason he will choose elsewhere...time!!! IMO the Cards are at the right place at the wrong time for this HOF QB. :bang: We shall see...

I hope I've been wrong all along but I always thought Grimm's O-line would be the deal breaker.

As far as cap space goes, why would we make a move preemptively? I'm sure they know who they would cut/what moves would be made if need be but if we free up the space and he goes elsewhere all we did is open up more holes by releasing players. If the cap space is needed, they will open it up; if they had no way of doing so we would not have gotten this far.

The money can always be worked out, especially for one Peyton Manning. He wants another ring.

Denver is 40M under the cap, we're 16M over the cap and he hasn't signed with them. The Broncos can sign Wayne, Clark, Saturday etc if they wanted to. The longer he waits the better if feel because i think he wants to know what we can do in free agency and how creative we can get with the payroll. If we had the cap space they did i think it would be a done deal.

I don't have that faith in RG when we can't get others signed for 6 months. Don't think PM isn't aware of our cap issues

Cut... him... anyway...

If they give up the hunt for Manning because of Kolb's stupid bonus... dear lord.

Hell, they could dump him and resign him for a much cheaper deal, last time we bid against ourselves and that was BEFORE he got injured twice and sucked in-between. As long as we could out-bid the Ottawa Rough Riders I think we could bring him back.

Yamon I feel you, but Peyton is looking for the most ready team, complete package, something he can plug in and play, not waiting around for a team to get it together. I think he will make more money on edorsements the next 3 years, no matter who he signs with. All I'm saying is if Peyton Manning doesn't sign here, it won't be because of the money offered in the contract and will have absolutely nothing to do with cap space. But i be wrong all the time so I advise not to listen to burnt out hippies...:p

The ballgame hasn't changed (it's been the same all the while).

It's what media folks are saying that continues to evolve.

Going in, I pegged our chances at 20% and see no reason to change that probability.

As one of the guys who had a front seat and sign on the PM bandwagon with optimism out the azz, I have now gone a polar oppisite as well..

I do not believe the Cardinals will land Manning, and have come to terms with that.. Kolb did not get a chance to really show what he can do...

Give him this year at least, and if he still can't stay healthy, or cant keep his eyes down the field sure, maybe we look elsewhere.. But we have Kolb this year, a very good defense, and the opportunity to compete.. And that is ok by me.. At least that is how I am sd pinning it..

Ok, I will buck the trend of this thread.

I
I

I still think we have as good as shot as we always had, if not even more now. Media hype wasn't followed by 12 serious teams knocking. Whiz, Fitz, AZ itself, Cornrows and the defense, and how the list of interested parties has reduced...

I don't know what our chances are, but I firmly believe that Peyton is 99% certain which team he is going to sign with and was before he was cut. I don't think his meetings with any of these teams are of much consequence at all.

correct...why cut people for something which might not happen. If it is cap, I'm sure they know who they intend to let go if Manning signs.

Don't believe we get PM either but can't get excited in the least about Kolb. I really believe the QB thing will derail us again this year. Sure hope I am wrong.

I saw more O-line problems when we were passing, same as the year before, 27 QBs (I joke), runningbacks...better be well versed in blocking. Kolb's concuusions worry me far more than his ability to play the game, which is better than Skelton, atleast for right now. IMO

Ok, I will buck the trend of this thread.

I STILL FEEL VERY GOOD ABOUT US SIGNING PEYTON. Like watching a tight game against a division opponent, one that you really need, there are ups and downs. We score, we feel like we can't lose. We give one up, we feel like we can't win. It's a roller coaster. Right now, I've reached the state of calm. That thoughtful state where you just feel confident.

Manning is a calculated guy. I believe he is still doing diligence. No stone unturned. But, in the end, he goes back to the the two places he started and had long discussions with. In the end, it's us and Denver, and we have the best situation ( I won't recap all the positives). The other situations have warts. I am not that concerned with Miami. New staff, shunned owner. Tennessee, Bud Adams is not Peyton's cup of tea either. KC, Seattle - No interest from Peyton. SF, Houston - No true interest in Peyton. Houston just cut an excellent OT Winston to get to the cap, and they still have a healthy Schaub. Manning isn't going to take nothing, and he certainly won't be able to bring ANY of his boys there.

We can get to $20 - $23M under the cap pretty easy (Levi, Porter, Stuckey, Kolb, restructure Larry, Wilson and do something with Bradley). We are going to need to pay for a vet OT, and a couple other pieces depth players. We draft DeCastro or an OT (God I hate picking for need). We can set up Manning's contract to count maybe $12M this year (overall average will obviously be more but this is for the first year only). We might not be able to bring in any of Peyton's guys (maybe Wayne), but we can do enough. I don't believe Peyton needs to necessarily bring in all of his guys - he wants a good existing situation.

Keep the faith, people.

These next two visits are being reported as if they're not visits at all and he is simply meeting with the head coaches. I'm not even sure if he's traveling to Tennessee, or if the coach is coming to him, does anyone know? Obviously he's in Miami so he might visit the Dolphins but the reports are still that he is only talking to the head coaches. He and his family history has never been one of a knee-jerk reaction. I have no idea what our chances were but I'm quite certain they haven't changed.

I think the idea of throwing to Fitz will intrigue him enough to get him here.

This post is very close to where we stand. I have my sources & won't even come close to divulging them, but Manning LOVED what we had to offer. We could not have handled his visit any better. If he decides not to sign with us, it won't be because of anything we did wrong. Bottom line, for us to be successful in signing Manning, we will also have to take on the contracts of 2 other ex-Colts. Manning very much wants Wayne, Saturday, and Clark to be part of the equation. Not necessarily all 3, but defintely 2 of them. I'll leave it at that.
