This post is very close to where we stand. I have my sources & won't even come close to divulging them, but Manning LOVED what we had to offer. We could not have handled his visit any better. If he decides not to sign with us, it won't be because of anything we did wrong. Bottom line, for us to be successful in signing Manning, we will also have to take on the contracts of 2 other ex-Colts. Manning very much wants Wayne, Saturday, and Clark to be part of the equation. Not necessarily all 3, but defintely 2 of them. I'll leave it at that.

I wish you would divulge so that I can sleep tonight. :D

I got like, nothing done at work today....now I've got 4 days work to cram into 3 because I'm leaving for Hawaii on Friday. Who knows if I get anything done at all til this gets settled.

I too have gone from pumped to preparing for the letdown.

If we sign PM, I will feel almost like we won the superbowl.

If we don't sign him, it is still a great sign at how far the AZ org has come since the days of the elder Bidwill calling shots - the fact that we were high on PMs list says a lot.

I would sign either of Wayne or Clark and Saturday and be DAMN happy. Give Peyton his comfy center, and one of his regular targets, plus Fitz and Roberts and ROLL the NFC West.

Sign Winston and draft another tackle? Deep playoff run this year...

You can divulge me all you like, but we won't have to sign any ex-colts to make it happen. That is just not true. :p

Very interesting. Thanks for the post.

I can't see bringing Clark in as much of a problem. He's about the equivalent of Heap at this stage in their careers. I would be happy to see Saturday on the team, but I know the coaches love Sendlein, although I feel differently. Hopefully Wayne wouldn't stand between the Cards and Peyton. Somers wasn't real optimistic today about the Cards interest in him.

The only thing we're hearing from the Cards is that they're respecting Peyton's request for secrecy. Even the local guys seem to be downplaying it much more than they were yesterday. Meanwhile, it seems like everyone associated with the Broncos is willing to declare themselves a source. I hope this works to our favor.

If the Cards were in the AFC I think he'd already be on the team. I think he likes the Cards the best and is tryig to see if an AFC team can get close to the Cards. He prefers the AFC but also the team that fits him the best is the Cards. That's what he's trying to decide.

I totally agree with you. If the Cards were an AFC team this would already be a done deal. Notice every other team still being talked about is in the AFC. Unfortunately The Cardinals being in the NFC is a stumbling block which is why PM is still entertaining other teams. I believe if any of the other teams can come close to matching what the Cardinals have to offer that is where he will end up.

I just don't know why that is such a big deal for him. I don't buy the Eli post season crap. That is a red herring. Familiarity? Well that goes both ways. NFC Defenses won't be familiar with him either.

Maybe Eli can just give the ok for Payton to play in the Nfc if that's an issue.

Cut... him... anyway...

If they give up the hunt for Manning because of Kolb's stupid bonus... dear lord.

Hell, they could dump him and resign him for a much cheaper deal, last time we bid against ourselves and that was BEFORE he got injured twice and sucked in-between. As long as we could out-bid the Ottawa Rough Riders I think we could bring him back.

:D

The Ottawa Rough Riders are defunct. But, if he's willing to wait two years there'll be a new team in the nation's capital.

Agree with this. I mean, what are the odds the Cards would face the Giants in the playoffs anyway.... has that ever happened??? or is my memory just gone and I don't remember.

These next two visits are being reported as if they're not visits at all and he is simply meeting with the head coaches. I'm not even sure if he's traveling to Tennessee, or if the coach is coming to him, does anyone know? Obviously he's in Miami so he might visit the Dolphins but the reports are still that he is only talking to the head coaches. He and his family history has never been one of a knee-jerk reaction. I have no idea what our chances were but I'm quite certain they haven't changed.

He met the Miami coaches in Indy, not Miami.

Question: Could Lyle move to guard?

Probably too expensive as a backup Center. Don't most teams usually have one of their guards as the backup C?

Well, Saturday might only play a year, so really Lyle would just be marking time until the following season. Worth the payout, IMO.

If we can make the cap hit work, it is. I totally agree with that. But money is so tight, I wonder if we can make that happen.

Arnt you allowed to be over the cap until a certain date?

They had to be under by the start of the new year twenty minutes ago. The Cards moves just haven't been announced yet.

As far as the Manning hype, Somers seems to be going out of his way to play down the possibility of him signing here. It's actually kind of funny. Florio is to the point of not even admitting we're definitely a contender.

For one of the teams near the front of the pack (perhaps) in the Peyton chase, it is.

If the Cards really do land Peyton, this would be the best smokescreen of all-time.
