I have yet to see anything special about Gabbert, then again, a friend of mine thinks Gabbert is the second coming of John Elway. I guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder. I wouldn't take a QB early in this draft at tall. I think they will all be overdrafted. Dalton is getting mentioned at the end of round 1, Kaepernick in round 2, c'mon. These guys would normally be 3rd and 4th round talents. The lack of a CBA is the best thing to happen to these guys because nobody has answered their QB questions.

Right now the safer pick would probably be a defensive player where we are at.

The highest risk / reward pick would be a QB.

A team as dismal as we are at this position now has to be at least considering a QB with the pick, HAS TO, that dosen't mean you have to pick one but you had better think about it.

LOL That is hysterical. So, during the pre-draft buzz, if there's a lot of buzz about one thing, one player going to one team, that's just what's going to happen? :biglaugh:

I'd much rather have Mallet than Gabbert. Mallet may have some question marks, but his physical ability and passing ability is perfect. Gabbert may not have character questions, but throwing the ball past 10 yards is a question mark for him.

Gruden said on ESPN yesterday that Mallet can make long, medium, and short throws all with NFL accuracy and major ball speed. He also said that foot speed was not a factor with Mallet as he was an NFL drop back passer like Marino and a number of other slow footed QBs who have been great. In fact he has enough foot speed to run the ball when all else fails and has done it often. I rate Gabbert above Mallet only because of what I have read. I have watched Mallet with my own eyes in all his games at Arkansas. This guy can flat throw the ball with accuracy into areas that are so small that most QBs would not even try. His over the top throw was from over 8' which was the highest in the combines. At 6'7" and around 240 lb he is a tough engaging young man. Questions about his character are really not very informed. People around Arkansas who really know this guy understand he will be a good character asset to any team. All his teammates like him and have looked to him for leadership. He is not self centered and comes from an NFL setup with former NFL HC running the offense and calling the plays.

What you do not hear much about is his ability to rapidly read defenses and make play changes at the line very rapidly. You would think you were watching Peyton Manning as Mallet runs up and down the line on a play and makes changes and barks out what people should do. He has had no serious injuries. Someone is going to get a very good QB with Mallet. Perhaps some teams are keeping quiet about him hoping they can steel him at some lower pick than his true value. At this point I have come to the conclusion he is a safer pick than Cam Newton. If he is there in round 2 I think he would be a steal for us and should certainly be high on our round 2 selection chart. He won so many SEC awards I cannot even recall them all. He is all football and you can be sure he will not be a playboy and will be giving his full efforts to becoming the best he can become.

Gabbert continues to get very high marks from nearly all the big gurus and based on what the experts say I continue to say I go with Gabbert with number 5 pick. I would have no problem with Mallet with our second pick but my guess he goes in round 1. After that we are very much in uncharted waters. The Alabama QB or Locker would be my fallback QBs as we MUST draft a QB with potential to compete with Skelton who is a long shot at best to be our QBOTF.

Have you read this thread?

When a guy party's so much that he can't make an interview because he is hung over, even though millions of dollars hang in the balance well, any team ought to run for the hills on Mallet.

Think Len Bias, Richard Dumas. Mallet is the biggest gamble of the draft in the first two rounds. This guy has a screw loose.

McShay's updated (today) has us taking Gabbert. He also threw in Quinn and Peterson as possibilities.

from ESPN

Scenario 1: The Cardinals need an upgrade at quarterback, and while I've been told they are not that crazy about Gabbert or Newton, my gut feeling is that they will take the QB who's available.
Scenario 2: If it's not a quarterback, then the pass rush becomes a priority, and North Carolina DE/OLB Quinn becomes the pick.
Scenario 3: Peterson does not fill a pressing need but would be a value pick even at this spot.
