It's not necessarily research to think that EVERY team ahead of the Cardinals has a QB conundrum, AF.
In my opinion, it would be preposterous to trade up for a QB that Whiz isn't even going to play for the next two years and possibly more. We all know whatever veteran Whiz signs is going to be the starter, and even Whiz has stated straightforwardly that he does not want the "expectations" that come with drafting a QB early in the draft.
All that and it is still possible that Whiz, like I and others on the board, actually like John Skelton's prospects down the line.
I will guarantee you...(1) the Cardinals are not trading up; (2) Gabbert will not be available wheh we pick at #5; (3) the player we take will be a defensive player or one of the vaunted WRs.
Whiz has stated emphatically the he want a player at #5 who can make an immediate impact.
I will also guarantee you that Brooks Reed will not be on the board at #38 and that it is a pipe dream to think he will be.
There you go.
Want to bet a Cardinals t-shirt on all of it? I get one of these wrong and you win. What do you say?
I would say the odds are with you so it wouldn't be a smart bet on my part. I wasn't saying you are wrong and it won't happen.....I just question how definitive you were in your response. To me thats a sure way to look silly at least half the time.
I would also caution against listening to anything Wiz or any HC or front office man is saying right now. And lets play hypothetical and say the Cardinals DO want Gabbert. Don't you think they would do everything to throw everyone off the scent - especially being in the precarious spot of #5 with a couple QB needy teams in front of them.
I'm looking at the actions. The ENTIRE management team went to meet Gabbert for Dinner and work out. I know many said "oh well we were on our way back and Mike flew by there....." but doesn't that sound like the move of a HC who wants his owner to buy in on paying millions to another Top 10 QB? YOu don't hear of Jerry Richardson or Mike Brown making these visits even if its "on the way".....BTW the funniest part about all that, Missouri is about 800 miles out of the way. I am pretty sure if the interest was only cursory, they wouldn't have been dragging Mr. B for a hand shake and a smile type meeting. Conversely what OTHER prosect has Mr. B ever met?
And what about Gabberts profile would Wiz not like? Hes a football diehard who has worked his butt off - neglecting most everything else - and also has the physical attributes of a Top QB pick. He's also a absolute gym rat, well liked by his teammates, and very cerebral. And with all those tremedous gifts, he still works like hes 5'4 Max Hall. I would venture to say hes the Anti Matt Leinart.
So you are right. Maybe Cinnci or Buffalo or another team that does trade up sees all those same things and makes this all moot. But I'll tell you how I have my mock going as of right now and I'll explain the picks...
1. Cam Newton - Carolina - Carolina needs not only a QB but a face of the franchise. The beloved Southern QB in Cam Newton makes this pick a no brainer.
2. Marcel Dareus - Denver - Denver needs defensive help. They get the bet dlineman.
3. Von Miller - Buffalo - Gailey wanted the rough and tumble runner in Newton who can also throw through a blizzard, but with him gone instead goes with the pass rushing demon.
4. AJ Green - Cinnci - This is a wild card no doubt, but Mike Brown NEVER gives in to being held hostage and I bet he thinks he can convince Palmer to relax if he switchs out Ocho for this soon to be star....
Or I could seem them going Fairley too. But I don't think Gabbert is the pick here for a bunch of reason, most of all which is there has been tepid response from the Bengals about him from the local beat writers in Ohio.
In fact see how many Mocks you can find, with Gabbert going to Cinnci.
As for Reed, he has a low first round grade and the things with good teams like GB and New England is ....well they can truly draft BPA. We have no clue who that might be as someone drops and frankly I am not sure OLB is a priority at all for the Packers.
And I have watched Reed play up close for the past 4 years. He's a great player, but I am not sure he is the first round lock you make him out to be. The transition to OLB won't be easy, and is a big reason literally dozens of players fall into that 2nd or 3rd round range, as they are making the position switch.
So could you end up being right? Sure.
I just take exception with you saying theres "no chance"....in fact I don't see it playing out your way at all.
But it could. And my willing to say that is the difference in our two posts
I will make one bet with you though. There is not a SNOW BALL'S CHANCE IN HELL that the Cardinals will draft a WR at #5. I can't believe you or anyone who avidly watches the NFL seriously see that as a possibility.
Now see you got me being all definitive
