History says we have no reason to be optimistic and if you want to call this season a waste before the final team is even assembled, well, history again says you're probably right. But, I don't see anything that has occurred over the past few weeks that should lead someone to the edge of the cliff. I understand the pessimism based on history but I don't understand the overreactions that appear to follow every recent move we've made.

Steve

You can't see that Keim & BA basically dismantled a playoff caliber defense in 2 months? What happened to all the "we're just a good QB" away from competing for a possible playoff berth that was talked about last year? If Arians is such a great OC, why can't he "coach em up" or "scheme" our offense to competiveness?

That's why I'm pissed

While I might not be renewing my season tickets this year on account of the product and some bad treatment at the stadium, I'm not renouncing my Cardinals fandom.

I've got to ask -- what could this team have done this year to match your expectations?

Here's mine.

Kept the Defense as intact as possible and worked on improving the offense.
Also made sure that Adrian Wilson retired a Cardinal if at all possible. Like the majority of you wanted just a short while ago.

Like I wrote before the signings aren't the problem its the cuts. The Cards weren't 5-11 because of the defense. In fact the Cards might have had the 1st pick in the draft if the D had played to the 2010 level. Now you can come up with all kinds of rationalizations regarding the defense but I'm not buying so don't waste your time. They were good and a ton of fun to watch.

By the way I really like a couple of the acquisitions but I can't name them because I'll jinx them.

Now one key thing that was posted today was the bit about Jude whatever his name is where he said the Cards told them they were going to make changes at safety and they did. I've never heard anything like that and nobody here even hinted at it. So obviously Arians and Co. see this team in a very different light than most here did and what CKW and Co. saw.

So it is going to be very interesting to watch how the rest of FA and the draft go. I wouldn't be surprised at all, say, if the Cards didn't draft any offensive linemen. Because after reading that piece all my ideas based on research of what Bruce had done before about what Arians and Keim are thinking went out the window.

I just FedEx'd you a straight jacket to last you until 2014. :D

Hey, I hope everyone of you gents & ladies are right & I'm wrong as hell but I think the optimism isn't justified. I've been a Cards fan for 40 yrs & never seen this record played on the jukebox.

I'll call you on that. I've been a fan for 39 years and I have rarely been this excited. Change from the last couple of seasons? I'll take it.

I believe our defense was overrated. I don't think we've lost anyone other than Toler and Rhodes that were really assets last year and they are certainly replaceable. I'm not an Arians fan (yet) but I think we were even worse than our record of the last 2 years so it makes sense that a new regime would try to get some new blood in here. As for coaching up our offense, if the new guys can really do that it just proves how bad the old coaching regime was. Our offense wasn't just a little bit bad, they were very, very bad.

But, my point was that the individual moves to date are not worth hitting the panic button over, IMO. If the Cards organization was historically one of the best in the NFL and our history was solid up until the Warner separation, our moves this offseason wouldn't bother me in the least. I'd see reason for turnover and I'd be hopeful as the new guys took the field. So again, I understand any Cards fan being pessimistic simply because we are the Cards but I don't understand the bitching and moaning over every single cut or signing.

Not on this board, in a macro sense, most fans would not continue to endure the crap we go through. Hell, my 2nd grader wore a Cardinals hat to school for hat day last week and was told by several 8 year olds, "Losers!"

He came home complainig to my mother-in-law.

You're in So Cal, right?

We draft Barkley and your son will be a GOD.

A playoff caliber defense? What exactly does that mean? D
If that means they were worthy but the head coach was a nemesis to their success, then I agree. So the new regime killed the head of the snake. Who cares if the bite is deadly if the reptile keeps striking at a tree stump.

If that doesn't make sense, cut me some slack, in Cabo with the wife and kids for spring break. Too much sun, sand, almost naked coeds, cold beer, tequila, and, well, you get the picture.... :)

I find it amusing that Keim said he never wanted to to see a game like the Seattle game last year again and then did this. We are going to get murdered next year.

I also find the "wait and see" crowd very amusing. Wait and see what? We signed a 35 year old S to replace one of our best defensive players in Kerry Rhodes. We re-signed a player most wanted to run out of town to replace Adrian Wilson at SS. We signed a new rush OLB who is 29 and has never been defensive starter to a contract that is over 4x more than he got paid last year when he was a special teamer. Our 3mil+ starting QB is 29 years old, has started 4 games in 6 years, and has 187 career passing attempts. Our new RB has a career 4.1 yards per attempt replacing our old RB who has a career 4.0 yards per attempt. Our current #2 CB has never played more than 12 games in a single season in his 4 year career.

There is no wait and see. I have seen what these players have done, and to expect them to suddenly change because they signed in Arizona is silly. If you believe the staff can "coach them up" then you are kidding your self again. Most of these players have already played for our current staff. Were they not coached up the first time they played for Arians or Bowles but will be this time? I'm not saying we should all quit the Cardinals, but I am saying you should take of your rose colored glasses and see this team for what it really is. A less talented team than the one we watched in 2012 when we went 5-11.

Well said and I couldn't agree more. Get ready for some thrashings next year Card fans. Michael will have some explaining to do.

I truly believe some of it is because they ate lots of coaching $$$ contracts & players also, so they are trimming the fat. I understand a few of the moves but tearing down a pretty darn good defense is ridiculous IMO.

Unless Kurt Warner walks thru the front door again, we make the trade of the century for a top 7 QB or we actually luck into drafting one this year everything you say is probably dead on. ;)

I am pretty sure I won't renew either. To be fair, going to games has become more of a hassle and I was looking for something exciting to coax me into re-upping. Not throwing a tantrum, but with a couple days left to make a decision, I still find my couch and plasma more appealing to watch this team stink.

Since the days of AZprosports and even the old AOL boards, you'll without fail find those that will back the FO no matter what, and never find fault with the team. Never mind the fact that the Cardinals have been inarguably one of the least successful teams in all of sports.

Some people will make excuses and put up with anything, despite all evidence that nothing will change. Let's face it - at best I expect the Cards to be good about 2 out of every ten years. Pretty sad, but that's the reality.

While it's annoying that people can be so obtuse, despite all evidence to the contrary, it's also a bit heartening as well. (I even get nostalgic for a couple good Tango "wailing and gnashing of teeth" comments) The best you can do is shake your head and laugh.
