We shouldn't waste another high draft pick on a Guard. Let's get a player that has a chance on touching the ball first.
This past season should have taught us that every position/role on this team is important and we ignore this at our peril. (How many games did poor ST play cost us)?

If the BPA on our board happens to be a guard, we shouldn't pass on him to draft a RB (because - sure as shootin' - some pass rusher will come shooting up the A-Gap and put an end to the rest of Carson Palmer's season).

(Note - Would I use #13 on a punter or kicker if one were that highly-rated? Well...uh...I'd probably chicken-out on that one - & I'd probably be wrong).

Pencil in Veldheer, Iupati, Shipley, Boehm, Humphries for the o-line next season. They'll be drafting for depth after Watford (if resigned) and Wetzel.

If you look back the course of the years.. you can get a glance at safeties and the trends. Granted, these safeties may be in a class of their own.

2016: Keanu Neal, 17th
2015: Damarious Randall, 30th
2014: Calvin Pryor, 18th. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, 21st.
2013: Kenny Vaccaro, 15th. Eric Reid, 18th. Matt Elam, 32nd.
2012: Mark Barron, 7th. Harrison Smith, 29th.
2011: none
2010: Eric Berry, 5th. Earl Thomas, 14th.

I would almost guarantee that one of either Hooker or Adams will be available at 13th. Obviously it's a probability game, but I believe one of them will be there.

Safety feels a little like guard or running back- you can find one you can win with on the second day of the draft.

Doesn't mean a Hooker isn't the 13th or better player in this draft, but might explain why they fall.

I'm not trying to explain why they fall, I'm saying that if you look at trends, typically, they do fall. So in all probability, they will likely be available unless there are 2 safety needy teams ahead of us and have no other glaring holes.

Likely to be unavailable like Jeff said. The argument that we have enough safties isn't valid. None can cover ground the way this guy can. None can cover the pass as well. It was an issue this year on the back side of the D. One of Jefferson or Swearinger will probably walk to greener pastures imo. I like Swearinger as a SS. Which is Jeffersons position. HB doesn't belong back there either.

If Adams, Hooker, Kizer, Quincy, Watson, & Foster were all gone before our pick, I really wouldn't be opposed to drafting Solomon Thomas even if Calais stays. The game is won in the trenches even though it's not a bigger need than ILB, QB, or CB.

The though of Calais, Nkemdiche(I think he'll turn it around), & Solomon on passing downs just leaves me salivating.

Fully expecting to be disappointed when Shipley is the starter again.

Agreed.

What is more shocking ? Shipley was rated the 12th best center in the NFL this year.

Serious need for centers in the NFL apparently.

Shipley did a solid job. High effort guy, good communicator. Holds up well in power game, but gets beat up the A gaps at times by quick DTs and ILBs. Snapping the ball on 1 with under 3 seconds on the play clock most plays, didn't help his cause, that's for sure.

We can't pay for all-stars at every position. We drafted Boehm. The Cardinals will offer Shipley a contract and a chance to try to beat out Boehm again---but it probably won't be Shipley's best offer with such a small UFA center pool. Thus, he probably goes elsewhere the way Ted Larsen did.

This is one of the more mysterious cards drafts in recent memory. Ive no idea who they are targeting. No clue.

Here we are talking about CBs, Ss, ILB, DLs

and watch Keim take a WR...not named Mike Williams

lol, thats what we should expect at this point

We really could go anyway in this draft we have wants but really no big needs. Our O-Line being healthy would do wonders

The guy is talented but ACL and meniscus injury to one knee and meniscus and micro-fracture surgery on the other knee in the last few years. I would say he's too risky (medical) for a 1st round pick.
