One thing that I thought was cool (and this is a REAL spoiler, so I REALLY recommend you don't read it unless you've seen the film):
People in the theater clapped and went crazy when Jim Gordon reappeared. That was a great moment in the movie, and I thought it was really well delivered line when he got to tell his kid that he saved the Batman.
I totally agree...the entire theater, including myself, clapped when we saw him...it was an awesome moment!
But this is my favorite moment in the film:
The magic pencil trick....that was simply SPECTACULAR and the audience was gasping for like 30 seconds afterwards...it was friggin' brilliant and hilarious....
A very good film, one of the best of the year. Very dark and not just for show. Ledger's character...brilliant (but for a different reason than Jack--someone nailed it--they can't be judged against one another). The comparisons of heroes and that entire line was quite good too. My main beef with the film is that it was too long and that they tried to do too much, which took away from how good it was, and took away from the enjoyability factor. I liked it a lot, but I didn't love it, and I'm not frothing at the mouth about it. In Bruges is a LOT better a movie, and it's one that's rather dark as well. Excellent film and one of the best comic book movies. I bet Ledger does win an Oscar, and he should, even without the hype about his death. Still, this is NOT anywhere NEAR the top 10 ever. Not even close. That talk is simply laughable.
I like the arc they had for 2 face, but it's balls that they killed him (also made it waaaaaaaaaaaaay too obvious. I'm no comic book fan, but even I knew he was becoming 2 face in his first courtroom scene). They stuffed way too much of his stuff in there, and then killed him off inexplicably. Still and all, I love how they ended it with Batman being the bad guy. I hade sappy endings

Dude, Stout, you do know that Dent probably isn't dead, right? The whole point of the movie is that Batman doesn't kill people, and if Dent is dead, don't you think it would have been a bigger deal? Gordon also said at the end that 5 people were dead and then Batman said blame him--he did not include Dent in that tally. (Also, and this is only rumor, the next movie is supposed to continue the Dent story) I think one of the things to remember is that earlier Batman pushed Merone off the building and he didn't die--I think that might have been a foreshadow to Dent falling. I don't think he's dead.
Haven't seen it yet, but richard roeper stated that in his review. A lot of it is about momentum and this has a ton behind it.
Also thanks to everybody for being careful with spoilers, nothing more annoying then reading a thread on the movie but having to be extra careful not to read any big spoilers.
I just saw it as well, and a phenomenal movie it was.
The one thing that bugged me, and it had nothing to do with the movie, is that when the Joker would do something on screen, at least half the time the theater burst into laughter.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this movie wasn't supposed to be funny, and Ledger's Joker wasn't at all supposed to be comical.

Wow, my buddy and I didn't get that at all. They didn't say anything about him living, and only talked about how they're going to cover it up. If you're right, then I'll be much more happy about it. I still think it was too long, but that would erase one of the few problems I had with it.

I was right.... It didn't live up to my expectations. But how could it? I was expecting Braveheart.
It turned out like it should though. A great movie, with a ton of great performances.
Heath should win the Oscar. He deserves it. This was a great, multi-dimensional performance. The hospital stuff, and the interrogation stuff were amazing. His magic trick with the pen was the perfect way to get his point across.
From the start of the movie I loved it. But it wasn't a 10. A high level 7 or maybe an 8 would be my grade.
Braveheart, Die Hard, Seven, Usual Suspects, Crash, and others will still be above this.
I will see it again next Sunday. Then I will go to IMAX.
I loved that the wife and I watched Batman Begins last night then went to the matinee of this the next day. It really allowed us to continue the story.
Thank you Heath. It was a great performance. I just wish we could see you come back and do it again.

I agree with the first paragraph. The 2nd.... Not so much.
And in the end.... Next to Iron Man. This is probably the best movie of the year for me.... The Best comic book movie ever, and prolly the summers all time biggest blockbuster. So it cant be that bad.
Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are the future of comics in cinema. Nolan is my hero.
Loved the transformation of 2-face. And Chap.... I got what you got near the end as well. I think there is more to come from Harvey Dent and 2-face. I now want to turn my attention to the Riddler. Wouldnt we have to see him in Christopher Nolans version of Batman??
