Funny how many people were crapping on Ledger in the beginning of this thread thinking he wouldnt pull off this role or pull it off well. I know its onl;y previews but seems to me that he probably did do a "better" joker than good ole Jack.

Whoa, not so fast! I'm not going near that far until I see the film.

I think the only person taking that stance was Stout. Everyone else seemed to take a wait and see approach.

They are in essence two different characters. The one that JN played and the one that HL is playing is different according to Chris Nolan. I think most people couldn't picture HL playing the Joker from the previous franchise. It's a different vision of the same character which I think people didn't get.

That I can buy. I certainly could never, ever see Ledger playing the Joker as cool and as slick as Jack did. Conversely, based entirely on the previews, I cannot say that Jack couldn't play the same Joker HL does. I'll wait and see how he is, but he'll have to be far above par to top Jack. As long as he's good, I won't flippin' care about the comparison.

Ah, thanks a lot. And just another question, what was the movie he was filming?

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

It's kind of cool, because he couldn't finish the job, Johnny Depp, Collin Farrel and Jude Law will each be taking over for three parts of it I guess. Not sure how it's going to work...

(on a side note, check our popcritics.com sometime - it's an entertainment blog me and another guy run...we're growing and going great - going to Comic Con next week!)

Ok guys, so I just got back from seeing it.

I'm going to try to not spoil anything, but just in case, I'll put it in the spoiler tag so you don't have to read it if you don't want to.
Simply amazing movie! The best I've seen this year and probably the best superhero movie I've ever seen.

Other than the voice change when in costume, Christian Bale again shows that he is a perfect Batman/Bruce Wayne. The whole idea of who is a hero is definitely at the forefront and the role of Batman in the "protection" of Gotham City is at the forefront.

Aaron Eckhart is great as Harvey Dent, he fits the role very well--and I won't say much about his evolution as a character, but it is pretty amazing. This is no Tommy Lee Jones folks.

But it's Heath Ledger that totally steals the show, what a magnificent performance. Psychotic and extremely intelligent, he is ALWAYS one step ahead of the police and Batman, and the performance is mesmerizing. While it is a different character, I would put it up with Daniel Day-Lewis's performances in There Will Be Blood and Gangs of New York as quintessential bad guy roles. I sincerely hope he gets at least nominated for an Oscar, it is completely deserved.

The movie really concentrates on all 3 characters pretty equally, with stunning effect. I caught my jaw dropping several times after seeing some of the action set pieces.

I can't recommend this movie enough. You thought Iron Man was good? This one is a lot better.

I watched a special (half of it) on History HD last night. I was the Psychology of Batman. It tried to talk about his relationship with villians, whether Batman or Bruce Wayne was the true identity and the other one a persona, etc. It had some pretty good interviews with psychologists, Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, etc.

I'd love to watch it again.

I "unspoiled" the first sentence of your review because it gives away nothing.

It's no secret that you are a "finicky" movie-goer (not a dig, just a statement :)). That sentence alone has me as ramped up for the film as I think I can be.

Did they mention how he almost kissed Catwoman (on the t.v. show) but stupid Robin budinskied and ruined the moment?
