Thanks Chap, just merging it with the official Da Vinci Code thread...

Mike

Sorry about that--I remember the original thread, but for some reason I spaced out and didn't even think about it.

Is he the skinny guy? That's an odd choice for Silas, IMO. I imagined a much more stocky man.

I agree, it's an odd choice, but he's a great, great actor, so hopefully it will turn out to be a great decision.

man do I think the casting for this movie just sucks - did Grazer or Howard even read the book? The only one that makes any kind of sense to me is Jean Reno and he was so predictable that my dead Grandafther could have called that one.

I guess I shouldn't get into it here, but I really don't like that they're making this into a movie, and I don't like the fact that Hanks is starring in it...

I think a lot of people will be misled by this movie stating things as fact when they aren't even close to the truth...

Mike

Yes, I don't have an opinion on this. I didn't read the book but, several of my RC friends said they have gotten many emails from groups wanting them to sign petitions asking Hanks NOT to do this movie.

Yeah, it sucks that it isn't a fictional movie...

Oh, wait...

I think it's hilarious that hardcore religious people are already condemning the movie when the book has been out for a while now.

good lord Mike - IT'S A MOVIE. If people are DUMB enough to believe in something a fictional MOVIE shows them then they are idiots. And even if not - if you are so sure about your aith, why feel threatened by a movie that merely asks questions?

Wow. I can't believe everything in the book was true. I mean Tom Hanks wouldn't play in a movie unless it was true.

Jesus had a wife and a child. Wow.

The Da Vinci Code

Release Date: May 19, 2006
Studio: Columbia Pictures
Director: Ron Howard
Screenwriter: Akiva Goldsman
Genre: Thriller
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for disturbing images, violence, some nudity, thematic material, brief drug references and sexual content)
Website: So Dark the Con of Man

Starring: Tom Hanks, Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Paul Bettany

Plot Summary: While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. While working to solve the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci -- clues visible for all to see -- yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion -- an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.

In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret -- and an explosive historical truth -- will be lost forever.

I guess I never saw this post...

I don't see the point in your post at all, lol...

hard core relgious people condemned the book too, as well as the movie more than likely.

I've read the book and will likely see the movie.

I did base my opinions though on the fact that most of what he wrote as FACT was utter nonsense.

Anyways, I suspect the movie will be pretty good...

Cheese...

The problem is, most people were believing the stuff written in a fictional book...and now they'll see the movie. Although I doubt Ron Howard will make any claims as to it being "fact" like Brown did.

I am sure about my faith, and that has nothing to do with it. Can I not worry about someone else who may read the book, read the intro where things are stated as "fact" and then start beliving it?

I think I'm allowed that...

Brown never said the story was fact or non-fiction, just listed facts he drew on for his book. ;)

I read Mitchner books, which he lists lots of facts about his locations, but he never says his stories are non-fiction. People don't give Mitchner crap about that. Just Brown because his story is religion based. Noone gives those guys who write the end of the world religous books any haertache either. And the have sold millions of books, too.

I just wonder if Brown hit to close for home for some religous peoples.

It might not be a very good movie, but I love how the only critics they quote in the article are ones that thought the book was bad too.
