Yep. That's music that will continue to live on. And Paul was an excellent choice after last year's "I'll do anything to save my fading career" show.
I collect concert videos and if you liked the music at half time check out McCartney's "Back in the US" tour on DVD. Paul wanted to do something for the US after September 11 so he toured the US and it was recordered from the start on the east to the finish in LA.
What really stands out is the crowd. The young to the older intermixed.

:nono:

he finished the tour in Phoenix - i was at both the LA and the Phoenix shows - just outstanding concerts - both of them.

This is probably true but for the SB halftime show you need entertainment that is multi-generational ie; Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Beatles, U2....not one age group specific. Hip Hop has only a marginal following outside of the 14 - 25 age group. The overall show is what I was saying was so good and Paul while not being my first choice did a good job.

Well that is what I am saying. They could have gone with more than one act. While I am not a Paul McCartney fan, I can live with that as long as they have some other acts.

Hip Hop sucks. I'm glad they finally had the balls to get away from that garbage.

McCartney was pretty good live.

But, if it were up to me, there wouldn't be any music at all.
I'd announce the ProBowl rosters, the offensive and defensive POY, the ROY, the head coach of the year, etc. It should be the NFL award show. Much more interest, IMO.

Best Superbowl halftime show in memory

Paul Mc Cartney is a classic and put on a fantastic rendition of Beatles and Wings tunes. Absolutely awesome baby.

Better expand that age group to 35.

My question is did he have to get permission from Michael Jackson to play the beatles songs. You know since Jackson OWNS them. LOL

I find it hilarious that one of the most famous musicians ever would have to call someone and ask permisiion to play HIS OWN SONGS!!!!

I thought the half-time show was very good. While it blew away last years debacle, I don't think it was as good as the 2002 version with U2. Having the names of all those killed on 9/11 projected onto a twin towers like screen while U2 played was very emotionally moving.

no - he just sends him a check...

that's okay - i hope jackson will eventually have to sell his rights to them, especially given all his recent legal troubles. i'd like to see paul buy them back.

i think the last time it was appraised (about 10 years ago or so) it (the beatles catalogue) was worth about half a billion - at least that was jackson's asking price.

I'm not positive on this, but my friend was telling me that he bought a lot of them back because Jacko was in financial trouble.

Agreed. I don't think anything will ever top that halftime show.

he had planned on selling them then pulled them off the table - $500 mil at the time. paul's worth over a billion now - so i'm sure he can scrap together the money for it if it comes up again.

Let's see if some of these hip hop groups are still main attractions in 40 years ? Heck half of that would be amazing.

When was this halftime show

At the end of the 2nd qtr, my son took control of the TV, and played Vice City....

Then, his game was over when the 3rd qtr was about to start :D

So, at least 30 minutes later?

I may be the only one, but I wish they'd just get rid of the whole halftime show and start the game up again after the same time interval as in the regular season. I think that would be more fair to the players and better for the people who just want to watch the game.

I think it's just playing the recorded songs that is controlled, you can play live whatever you like, I think.

sure if they sing the same songs that made them famous in the first place. the funny thing is people keep ripping hip hop, but it keeps on growing and outselling most of the "main stream" music.

My point being that you may not like certain artists, but that does not mean the whole genre of music sucks. There are things in all music that I like and dont like.

Clif, Your point is well taken. My parents were from the "swing" era (1940's) & if they were alive my Mom would've been OK with Pauly but my Dad hated everything Rock & Roll! I don't have a problem with hip hop (though I won't search it out). Music is a generational thing, though many icons make music "after" their peak of popularity. Sinatra, McCartney, a few bands from the 60's, 70's & 80's. More artists would've been OK but after that Aerosmith/Britney Spears thing a couple SB's back the last thing I want to see is Paul McCartney & (whomever) mugging at the camera during "Hey Jude". The halftime show was all right with me... :)

dont disagree with any of that, but someone just irked me when they were pretty much equating hip hop with automatically meaning a bad show. Who knows maybe I am reading too much into it but I am pretty ticked that paul mccartney was the entire show. They could have mixed in some other artists to mix it up and not have it be one lame act.

I agree. ALthoughI liked the whole show, I was kinda hoping that the GnR minus Axl would show up for live and let die :)

You really think there weren't people 40 years ago saying that about the Beatles? Or X years ago about Public Enemy and Run DMC?

Not everyone likes any genre of music, doesn't mean it's not good, except of course for country music which just bites.

:D

That would be a neat trick since half of them are Velvet Revolver now.
