Being reported here on the news that people have complained that that halftime show was one of the most boring ever.

Guess you anti hip-hop people are dying off, and just like your parents not liking your music... your feeling old right about now.

Tame Super Bowl still draws FCC complaints

(KRT) - In stark contrast to last year's wardrobe malfunction-dominated Super Bowl, viewers were apparently relatively comfortable with Sunday's football action and its surrounding entertainments and commercials. Through Monday, the Federal Communications Commission has reportedly only received 33 comments stemming from the game, including several complimenting the broadcast.

According to "Mediaweek," most of the complaints stem from the expensive commercials that aired during the game. The GoDaddy.com ad featuring a curvaceous brunette, received the bulk of the ire. Eight people wrote in about the spot, which FOX and the NFL refused to air a second time. Five more people took offense at the ad for erectile dysfunction drug Cialis, while one lone viewer was disgusted by a Pepsi spot featuring lusty "Queer Eye" star Carson Kressley.

Paul McCartney's halftime show generated four complaints, though two of them kvetched about how boring the former Beatle was. Two others took exception to the drug references in one of McCartney's songs.

At least one viewer, probably misjudging the FCC's power, asked that the regulatory agency have Joe Buck removed from the announcing crew.

While those isolated complainers may have had concerns about the Super Bowl content, the normally pugnacious Parents Television Council was entirely copasetic with the game and its surrounding festivities.

"The PTC commends FOX, the NFL and its advertisers for displaying a modicum of respect for the many viewers who voiced concern about last year's Super Bowl broadcast," the PTC says in a statement. "The PTC also thanks each and every viewer who took the time to voice his or her concern for the wholly inappropriate content which Viacom arrogantly dumped into our living rooms."

The "Mediaweek" article notes that more complaints may still be coming. It seems highly unlikely, though, that Sunday's game will distort the entire media landscape in the same manner as last year's game.

I only agree with the stuff in bold. Say goodbye to what used to be awesome commercials and kick ass halftime shows. Now the FCC nazis want to ruin it for everybody. People if you have a problem with the broadcast, change the damn station!!! I am all for moving the game to say like HBO, ESPN, NFL Network, whatever, and letting them do whatever the hell they want to make it a great game AND a great show!! Hell, I'd be game for pay-per-view. I know none of this will ever happen though due to the large and expensive advertising medium, and contracts, etc. But hell, bring back what used to be the greatest showcase in all of sports!!!!!!!

sure if they sing the same songs that made them famous in the first place. the funny thing is people keep ripping hip hop, but it keeps on growing and outselling most of the "main stream" music.

My point being that you may not like certain artists, but that does not mean the whole genre of music sucks. There are things in all music that I like and dont like.

Not true on both counts.

I was buying the new material and going to concerts for both Genesis and Pink Floyd right up until they pretty much retired. Even after that they are still both very popular.

As for Hip Hop, it's not the style it's the 'artists'. The vast bulk of popular 'artists' never last more than a few years [typically less than 10 year, most far less].

I'm not trashing current music, it was exactly the same 30 years ago. Most popular music was junk and the 'artists' producing it are long gone.

I expect most know who Pink Floyd and Genesis are, along with the Police, Dire Straits, ZZ Top, Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, The Who etc ...

But do you remember Gary Glitter or the infamous Bay City Rollers [aaaarrrgggghhhhh !!!!, screams and runs for a drink].

It's not current artists that are bad, it's now as then the bulk of 'popular' artists are junk. The good ones survive and their music is played for years/decades, long after they retire.

Give me Earth, Wind and Fire, the Ohio Players, Brothers Johnson, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, quality black performers with style, skill, and their own styles of bling. Guys that brought the style. All we have now are baggy pants, underwear out the top, moronic gold chains, sideways hat wearing followers that steal half of the tracks to make their 'music', because they don't have the talent to create it.

Don't know about Earth Wind and Fire but Otis Redding would get a vote from me even it isn't really my thing.

but that is the point I am trying to make. Some artists suck. some don't. It doesn't have to do with the music as a whole.. it has to do with the perfomance my the particular artist. I dont expect everyone to like all kinds of music, but what gets me is when people say this music sucks or that music is tearing people down or whatever.

Hey to each their own. I just hate it when the NFL and other venues put the same couple of artists on and people get this notion that because these particular artists suck they all must suck.

I think we are close to agrement on this, my point is that in any era including today, the majority of popular artists are junk, regardless of genre.

That's why one always hears how the 'older generation doesn't understand our music'. In fact they do but they realize that most of it is junk. Time has the benifit of filtering out the junk.

The is unconnected with not liking it. I don't like Rap [obviously] or Hip Hop and I'm sorry to say that from the musical perspective I don't see there is a difference, to be honest I don't see much music either. But then I don't like C&W either and I can't see the difference between Country and Western :D

But just because I don't like it doesn't mean than amoungst the trash there aren't a few talented artists. I'm sure there are but I don't have the interest to go find them as I don't like the genre.
