FWIW, Clayton says in his insider blog that Bidwill(sic he spelled it wrong over and over) knows Chow very well. That Chow used to regularly visit the Cards at training camp(no explanation given as to why) and that they have a very good relationship.

I knew there was some connection but didn't necessarily know what it was, apparently that's it.

Chow makes sense on so many levels, really.

If he has visited the team on a number of ocassions and has had talks with ownership, then the fact that he has been a (historically) bad interview won't become much of a factor. The Bidwells would already know him and have an impression of the type of person and coach he is.

Also, I think Chow would be more inclined to look at some of the retained staff to get a shot at a HC job, than the other candidates like Rivera who would want a shake up on the defensive side of the ball to fit his schemes. This means that Pendergast would have a shot at staying and we won't be looking at Gerald Hayes dropping back into coverage in a cover 2. Or Gabe Watson sitting on the sideline because he doesn't fit the idea of a cover 2 DT.

My completely outsider guess is that if everything we're reading is true, the Cards fully intend to hire Chow.

Urban quotes Graves saying a full blowup of the staff is not in order, that some of them should be retained. That makes it harder to hire a new HC since most would want to choose their own staff. But you hire a guy like Chow who is essentially desperate to get the shot as a HC, has always been offensive focussed, he's more likely to accept inheriting assistants?

Not saying Chow is my first choice, don't really have one at the moment, just that my gut tells me the Cards are acting like they intend to offer Norm Chow the job.

And our defense will continue to underperform.

If they play like they did in 06', they certainly will. But the idea of having to let go of good players like Hayes and Watson to fit the cover 2 is just as bad IMO.

Not to mention the old man will favor him because he will likely save him a lot of money by retaining most of the assistants for at least a year.

not to mention Berry and Okeafor would have to lose about 10-15 lbs each. Cover 2 ends are usually between 250 and 260

Which would mean we should avoid him like the plague. Anybody willing to simply toe the company line just to get a job has to be avoided.
