Is it just me, or was Suarez offside by a mile on his second goal? He was onside for the first touch, but on the second touch, which went to him, he was well past both defenders. Offside, surely.

Well England is now in a tough spot

A Costa Rica-Italy tie eliminates them.

To advance, they now need:

Italy to win against Costa Rica and Uruguay
Beat Costa Rica
Have Goal Differential over CR and Uruguay

Unlikely but could happen. Costa Rica is a team that I thought could surprise some folks. Really for me one of the only true dark horses of the tourney. They are as strong as Mexico or the USA from what I saw.

I'll agree with Jermaine Jones. He had a hell of a game. Best he has had in a US shirt. My 2nd was Bedoya. He played his heart out on defense. They gave Dempsey man of the match. He scored a great goal but did nothing afterwards. He doesn't really help on defense.

Well Dempsey did his job. Technically speaking this is his first start in a WC as a striker and He was the first striker to score for the USA in a World Cup since 2002 at least that's what I read somewhere. The WC is all about goals. That's the bottom line. In the next game we could dominate the chances but lose if the finishing touch is off. We need to be better but we were unfortunate to have Dempsey break his nose and lose besler and Jozy. Bradley looked reluctant to attack for most of the game. I think scoring in the first 30 secs had something to do with that. All in all I think early on they looked hungry to push fwd and about 10 minutes in Ghana started to push bodies up and the USA seemed to settle for counter opportunities. They almost had a couple of chances to really make them pay. I think in the next game we will need more from Bradley as Portugal will likely try to mark Dempsey seeing him as one of the only threats to score. I would put wondo in over johansen and consider him as a sub. But Bradley owl have to push fwd to provide service to wondo and Dempsey. Also I favor zuzi offensively over bedoya. Ghana had a very talented midfield and it showed. They were skilled and controlled the ball with ease. The USA did a great job of limiting them and at times frustrating them. Their goal was a brilliant sequence just as was dempseys goal.

That makes them a darkhorse? A darkhorse to get out of their group maybe and that is still a stretch.

Wow, Costa Rica gets screwed out of a penalty, but then go right back down the field and score the opener anyway. Go CR, go CONCACAF (but not Mexico lol).

Wow, Costa Rica's done it. Italy and Uruguay to fight for 2nd. Truthfully, England was absolute crap. Italy and Uruguay have been pretty bad, but better than England so far.

still Costa Rica is more of a cindarella than a dark horse

I despise Italy even though I have some Italian ancestry so job well done. Italy was embarassingly poor I thought. They also seemed to be exhausted early in the 2nd half already.

Only a Cinderella if you don't pay attention to CONCACAF and it's steadily improving quality of play. Although it's nice to see your overall puzzling thoughts aren't only specific to hoops.

Costa Rica advances to Round of 16, England eliminated.

Who would have guessed that both England and Spain would be eliminated after two matches?

My god you're pathetic at times. You're now arguing between the difference of a cinderella and dark horse team. Just admit they were brilliant to get out of the group. They deserved it through their play. Stopped two 'top' teams from playing their games.

As an Italy fan I can admit Costa Rica was fantastic today and Italy was beyond sub par. Costa Rica over this two game stretch has proven the right to win the group.

I'm blatantly stealing this from somewhere else:
Spain hasn't been kicked out of South America this hard since the 1800's

Spain, England out...US better do its part and kick Portugal out too ;)

Note that the only colony left in South America is French ;)
