It's because Brenly keeps on over-extending Koplove and Villarreal day in and day out...It's about time they realize that they no longer need 3-catchers on their 25-man roster and immediately promote up Scott Service or any reliever to serve in either a mid-relief or mop-up role.....

Amen to that. But it isn't just overworking a couple guys - Jose had been looking great again recently, and he 'pulled a Mantei' on us. ;) I am starting to wonder about how adequate their warmups are before they come in.

As an aside, reading the box score I was trying to figure out how Koplove got a blown save when he pitched .2 innings with no hits, walks and two strikeouts.

The recap says there was an error by Hilly on a grounder sent to him that he threw to Hammock in the dirt.

But nonetheless, Koplove still got a blown save on the box score. Is that a stupid stat or what?

Or if they're warming-up too excessively in the bull-pen.... People generally tend to overlook that if a pitcher warms up on a daily basis, he might very well be pitching an equivalent to a full ball-game...putting too much strain on his arm... That's probably what affected Koplove last season and eventually might catch-up to Villarreal....

It seems that Hammock now can wishstand the rigours of catching on daily basis, so I still cant figure out why Estalella is still up here....

Much the same as if a pitcher is the pitcher-of-record when the other team takes the lead, even if unearned . . .

A reliever is the closer-of-record of record, so to speak. Even if by error, if he was involved in losing the lead, it's a blown save. No error is fair to a pitcher (unless he makes it, or throws a wild pitch), but it's not the 3B who get wins, losses, saves, or blown saves.

There's really no other way to do it.
