`there just wasnt a clear alternative

Maulaga? I love him -- but he is an Inside LB and you have Hayes and Dansby

Everettte Brown? I guess, but its not like he was clearly better.

Other than durability I am puzzled as to why he fell all the way to #31. But then I was puzzled about why Larry English went in the mid teens.

I hope he stays healthy. If so, it's a solid pick IMO.

I love the pick.........Now hopefully a pass rushing OLB will drop to us in round two.

I don't believe that there was a worse choice at that spot.

Wow.

How about I am the first to say this then. By the end of his first year Beanie Wells will have put all "I wish we would have drafted AP" thoughts to rest. He will be special in this offense and like the durability concerns with AP he will be on fire to prove those wrong.

Go look at how he performed against the best teams. Do you all know how fast he is?

Amazing pick. The Cards of old would have drafted Everette Brown. I'm proud of the FO today.

Dont understand the "soft" label.. He played his entire sophomore year with bone chips in his ankle, and ran the ball 40 times for 250 yards vs Michigan with a broken wrist.

He's missed three games in three years..

He's going to be very good for us.. He won't have to carry it 30 times a game.. He's going to be a 15 carry guy in our current offense..

Hightower is a good receiver, so he's a solid compliment to Wells..

Can't dislike this pick given that he's the most naturally gifted back in the draft and we picked #31

don't like it but will see if he proves me wrong. I find it hard to believe you can have a power running game mixed with a passing offense likes ours.

To date, Whiz and Graves have gone with the speed and size combo. Last year with DRC. This year with Chris Wells.

The guy is 230lbs and runs a 4.4-4.5. He LEAP FROGS defenders at 230lbs. That is just absurd.

I love the Tower of Power. He is a good goal line back. But Chris Wells is the type of talent that shouldn't be there at #31.

"Soft" is the wrong way to describe him. Injury prone is more like it. Soft was JJ Arrington, Mr. avoid a hit. Wells LIKES contact, thus he isn't soft, but he is an injury waiting to happen. Hopefully an offseason with NFL strength and conditioning will help fix this.

I'll take it but dont like it. We will defintiely have to have a two headed monster. Im guessing 15-18 carries a game for Wells and maybe 10 for Hightower. Try to keep him healthy.

I think people read his weight and think he is a power back. Have you watched him play?

He is a all around back in terms of between the tackles and speed to the outside. He is not even primarily a "power back". Hes just big. In fact one of the biggest knocks is that he runs out of bounds and avoids contact.

Geez - some are never happy.

I am really surprised and happy that he fell to us. Not unlike how I felt when Leinart did a few years back. We know Whiz wants a power running element to our running game so I imagine he's liking the pick.

Competition at RB never hurt!! Especially for a team that was dead last in running the ball

I've got no complaints about picking this kid at #31. We didn't screw it up and I think he's going to be a very good back.

The icing on the cake is that we keep Q, what an offense for any team to defend against.

I would have picked him first on my mock....but I thought there was NO WAY he would last to 31.

C-bus is happy....my OSU friends have a reason to root for the Cards.....definately the BPA in my opinion.
