I understand the comparisons to Hightower but Wells ran a 4.38 on his pro day and I'm pretty sure Hightower isn't that fast. Even as a Michigan fan I like the Wells pick and I'm glad he's on my team...also he has a pretty damn good stiff arm.

Also whats not to like about a Tower of Power and a Beanie RB duo?

I think people read his weight and think he is a power back. Have you watched him play?

He is a all around back in terms of between the tackles and speed to the outside. He is not even primarily a "power back". Hes just big. In fact one of the biggest knocks is that he runs out of bounds and avoids contact.
Bingo. I don't want that from my 230+ pound running back. Period.

Geez - some are never happy.

Yup. Very much agree.

Mike Mayock emphasized that this guy has real speed to run away from defenders at the 2nd and 3rd level.

He also stated that teams were very, very impressed with the way Wells caught the ball at his pro day. Something that is really important for us.

The injury concerns are valid. But man, the guy is a real great pick at #31.

My only concern is his Blitz pick ups....

Edge was a master at them.

That running out of bounds stuff is so ridiculous. Ive seen every carry of this guy's career, and he ran out of bounds to avoid contact ONE time!

It just so happens they keep showing that play over and over to dog him.

But you're right he's not a power back. He's an explosive back who combines speed and power. Plus he may very well be able to catch the ball out of the backfield. OSU's offense is boring as can be, and they never utilize the RBs in the pass game. So who knows if he can catch or not.

I wish we'd have gone for defense. Hopefully he does well for us.

At least he gets to wear some real red. (I can't stand The Ohio State University...)

Thats encouraging to hear. You are right they play that loop on that play against Michigan and perception takes over. Even the gy at Scouts Inc referenced that same play as if he had never watched another carry.

This guy might be the most physically talented ATHLETE in the draft. When you have a legit gu in HT the durability issue doesn't hold as much concern. Its a home run all the way around.

Mark it down. If healthy and motivated he will put up Peterson type numbers. Mock me if you will but before this year when he missed a game or two he was a CONSENSUES top 5 pick.

Again I am ecstatic.

There are only two real concerns about Wells..

Blitz pickup. Don't think he's great at it.

Secondly, he runs a little too upright, which leads to guy getting clean shots at his legs. But I think a good RB coach could smooth that out.

Yea, anyone who questions his ability to be an elite runner, just needs to pop on the tape vs LSU and vs Texas... He was fast, powerful, explosive, and dominant.

And although Im an OSU fan I can admit their offense is bad, their Oline is usually pretty mediocre, and he plays in an offensive system that is not dynamic.

In the Whisenhunt offense with Grimm coaching up the Oline, and teams not being able to key on him, he could be an elite NFL back

Blocking- Flashes the flexibility to pass block with good technique and strength. Stands up pass rushers in their tracks. Does not always stay after his blocks. Must use better technique...Sporting News on Wells

will do for me

We got the best RB in the draft at 31. It would have been pretty tough to pass on Wells there.

My biggest issue with Wells is that it seems like we settled for him. We drafted for need, however we didn't get the speed threat that we needed. It was almost like we panicked because there wasn't a 3-4 pass rusher and Donald Brown was gone. We still are lacking a third down threat out of the backfield and we have already chosen a back.

I just don't see how Wells fits what we do on offense. If we are trying to be a more physical team and run the ball, Boldin should have been traded by now. If we want to throw the ball, Wells is a terrible pick as he needs to wear down a defense. I feel like we took the next best back on the board to fill a need and didn't consider the skill set that Wells brings.

I like that he is a big back, has a good burst of speed, a strong straight arm and is a decent pass blocker. You have to be able to pass block to play for us.

I was thinking maybe the Titans were going to try and get Boldin just before they picked and we could have picked both Maualuga and Wells.

Settled for Wells? I disagree...He was the BPA at the time. I know you could make an argument that Rey Mauluga was there but is a 2 down ILB worth a 1st round pick?

In the Cardinals opinion there wasn't a 3-4 rusher worth a 1st round pick so they wouldn't be reaching for "need"

As for the Cardinals not picking up a speed back again I disagree. At 235lbs Wells was able to run 4.38 on his pro day which is blazing for a guy is size. He is also rated as the top or 2nd rated RB in the draft on most credible draft sites.

How is the most physically talented back in this draft falling into our laps settling? There are no speed backs worth of first day consideration and Wells is plenty fast himself. It's not like we picked Shonn Greene.

So sick!!! I have been in the library all day and had to go to dinner for the past hour, but when I rushed back to my computer and I saw that we got Beanie...it's going to be another GREAT year!

Way to go Cardinals!
