Jeez, it's a friggin ingredient. If you want a vanilla coke, vanilla isn't a condiment. It cannot be made without vanilla. Let's not get carried away here, folks.

EDIT: it opens an interesting can of worms, though. You can't make a ruben without 1000 Island dressing...does the dressing change from condiment to ingredient? Or, is the condiment an ingredient? Hmm. I guess some things are better left unknown.

No....like at the soda fountains. Out here in a PHX we have Gas Stations. And inside those gas stations you can add cherry, vanilla and some other squirts of flavor. So are they condiments??
Right, so you're making your drink--your vanilla coke. Or your cherry coke.

Is Coke or Rum the condiment in a Rum and Coke? Neither! It's a rum and coke--you can't make it without those two things.

If it's essential to what your making, I think I'd fall on the side of "not condiment." I mean, a hot dog is still a hot dog without mustard.

This is different. You can't fill up the cup with just the Vanilla cuz it is just syrup.

Who dillutes their Rum with Coke??
I still think it's essential to the drink. See my edit on the last page about 1000 island dressing and ruben sandwiches.

What about salt around the rim of a margarita?? Alcohol Condiment??
I almost mentioned this. Probably. But would salt in any other situation be considered a condiment? I don't think so. That's what makes me wonder.

Sure, salt on popcorn at the movies. Salt and pepper on the dinner table. Salt on pizza and popcorn.

What about a Chilli Cheese Dog. Now it is not a Chilli Cheese Dog without the chilli or the cheese. But chilli can be a meal all by itself but that cheese spread can't so it has to be a condiment. Doesn't it??

If we had a Food Forum, we could have a thread discussing Red Eye Gravy.

Has anyone been to a Korean restaurant? They put little bowls of stuff out before the entries are served. Kim chi, etc.. I think those are condiments, not sure really.

So even though tabasco is called tabasco sauce I think it is a condiment.

Melted Butter is perhaps the best condiment ever.

Tabasco is a funny one.

Melted Butter is not even in the top 5 IMO.

I was thinking of lobster and melted butter. But after your post, upon further review, I think you are correct about butter.

Speaking of lobster, I made lobster cakes yesterday to go with the steak on the grill, and forgot about them in the oven.

:(

And yet no one wants to participate in a condiment survivor. Shame on all of you... except Mulli that is.
