Eagles get the better of DeMeco Ryans trade

G.M. Rick Smith praised Ryans while shipping him to Philadelphia. “DeMeco Ryans contributed significantly toward helping us build the foundation we hope will bring a world championship to the city of Houston,” Smith said in a statement distributed by the team. ”His professionalism and leadership cannot be over-exaggerated. This move was mutually beneficial for the Texans immediate and long-term goals, DeMeco’s career, and the Philadelphia Eagles. We appreciate all the hard work and effort DeMeco invested in our organization and wish him only the best moving forward. He is a class act.”

And so for a mere fourth-round pick and the flip-flopping of third-round selections, the Eagles get something they badly need: a middle linebacker for their 4-3 defense.

I don'y know if "duke it out" is quite the right term. It seems that it's he who is hoping to drive up his number through these visits.

Plus a 1st round pick?

...but that doesn't count to him...must be spending too much time near a smelter.

Jets QB Drew Stanton wants out

Tim Tebow's arrival in New York already has upset one New York Jets quarterback -- Drew Stanton.

The veteran backup, who signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract last Friday to be the No. 2 quarterback, has asked to be traded or released, a league source confirmed to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.

No kidding. Poor baby, Drew Stanton.

I bet he gets released and is out of the league next season.

Bears add Michael Bush to backfield

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms Thursday with former Oakland Raiders running back Michael Bush, and franchise back Matt Forte doesn't seem too happy about it.

Bush gets a four-year contract worth up to $14 million, including $7 million in guaranteed money, according to a source.

"There's only so many times a man that has done everything he's been asked to do can be disrespected!" read a post on Forte's Twitter account. "Guess the GOOD GUYS do finish last ..."

Broncos sign WR Andre Caldwell

Peyton Manning's appeal is already paying off.

Free agent receiver Andre Caldwell elected to sign with the Denver Broncos on Thursday in large part because of the presence of No. 18 under center.

"He gets the best out of the receivers," said Caldwell, who spent the past four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. "That's a big reason why I came."
Before acquiring Manning, there were concerns that maybe receivers would be reticent to come to Denver and play for a run-oriented quarterback in Tim Tebow.

Everette Brown signs with the Lions

Brown, a free agent defensive end who played for the Chargers last year, has signed a one-year deal with the Lions, Adam Caplan of Sirius/XM reports.

The 24-year-old Brown is a talented player but has been something of a disappointment since he was taken by the Panthers with the 43rd overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He totaled six sacks in two seasons with the Panthers, then was released after training camp in 2011. He caught on with the Chargers but played in only three games last year.

For Bell it looks like the Bills are now out of the mix per Buffalo beat writers. Jurecki also tweeted early that he called his agent and the agent said we are still talking.

So that means it is now between Us and the Redskins.

I would say that if we sign Bell, William Gay, Jay Feely and Mike Leach...the FA period is topped off with icing on the cake and we can enter the draft feeling free to draft for impact players.

The one other I privately hope for is P Donnie Jones. Man that guy is good and he could be a real difference maker.
