I wonder who's fault is was this time that Shawn only took 5 shots? Was the ball just not finding him tonight (Damn Ball, Find Shawn!)? Were plays not being run for him (coach's fault)? Was it because he wasn't comfortable with Haslem out there (aka. Haslem's fault)? or could he just not find his rhythm (because his teammates didn't get him involved)?

I'm sure that Shawn keeps a "Magic 8-Ball" type of device in his locker that he can just shake, and then one of these targets of his blame then appears in the little bubble.

You know that somewhere, John Hollinger is just crying his squinty eyes out as his "buh...buh...Player Efficiency Rating!" ship sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

This is the kind of comparison you get from someone that either didn't watch Shaq's last game or doesn't understand how much of an impact he had on the game without even needing to score.

No, this is the kind of comparison you get from someone who's been reading the same kind of comments for the past couple of years any time Marion had a low-scoring game -- even if he worked hard on D and rebounded like a maniac (probably comments from posters who didn't understand how much of an impact he had on the game without needing to score).

From the recap:
"Part of the problem was that Marion got only five shots at the basket, something Riley said he must correct.

''He's got to get more than five shot attempts,'' Riley said. "I have to manufacture more shots for him.''

His point was that genuine stars, genuine #1 or #2 scoring options don't need to have their shots "manufactured" for them, especially to the point where they only give you 4 points in one game and very little else.

Franchise players do things like get to the line, or set up other players with assists when things aren't going their way offensively. Marion never had that ability to adapt to what the game gives him, leading to these kinds of nights.

This is too funny! I'm logged in right now and watching the thread titles change right before my eyes! :D

P.S. Shawn Marion probably cheats on his taxes.

Just to clarify further on your first rather condescending remark, I fully understand how much any player can impact a game without scoring. Although I don't pretend to know it all, I'm not completely without knowledge of the game, having been a basketball fanatic since a year before you were born.

Obviously Marion will never be the type player to carry a team by himself. He was always a great complimentary player. However, the big thing I notice about Marion this year is the number of poor outings he has had this season especially in regard to scoring. Marion always used to be a stat machine with very few stinkers but this year he seems to be getting more. I sometimes wonder if Marion is starting to show signs of age in regards to the loss of some of his athletic ability. Marion used to be a pogo stick going for rebounds. I just do not see it anymore.

I know what you mean, about the lack of consistency. He's still hitting his averages, but it's because he'll have a monstrous 30 point night one game, and then a stinker like this one the next.

And speaking of 30, that's his age right now. Generally, that's about the age at which an NBA player is in his prime, firing on all cylinders. But that's not all players. Some players peter out long before they hit 34, 35, while others go on to have Hall of Fame careers after they hit 30 (Steve Nash). Marion might have several more big seasons left in him. Who knows? The Heat are not providing a positive situation for him to show off his stuff.

Right now, Marion is still adjusting to the offensive schemes over in Miami, in a season where the Heat are obviously tanking anyway. So I don't think there's much pressure being put on him right now to do well. But next season, when Miami gets their top 5 pick and Haslem is back to full health? There's no reason why they shouldn't be a 6-8 seed in the East. Under those circumstances, 4 point outings by Shawn might be way more of a big deal to the Heat.

Also, I heard from a reliable source that Shawn Marion eats puppies. ;)

Shawn's poor scoring games usually come from his own lack of effort. I would guess he's had 6-10 sub-10pt games with the Suns this season and now 1 with the Heat. There are some games where he just starts standing in the corner and not moving without the ball, cutting to the basket, backcutting along the baseline for an alley-oop, etc. When he's active out there then he gets more shots and when he takes a backseat then he doesn't.

I just wish Shawn would take some responsibility for his own bad games and just say " I didn't get myself involved enough in the game tonight" or "I didn't have the energy tonight that I need to bring for our team to be successful", etc etc. I like Shawn as a player, but he's delusional about his own offensive capabilities. He always made it seem like his teammates or coaches were holding him back and now he has a chance to prove he's worth the 3yr $60 mil extension that he wants and he puts up 4 pts in 40 minutes and only gets 6 rebounds? If you're making $20 mil per year then you better be able to bring it consistently every night, no matter who is guarding you or who you are guarding. He's already one of the highest paid players in the league and he wants more and thinks he's worth the same amount as Kobe, Lebron, KG, etc? I think there's a demented little birdy whispering in his ear.

I am sure it will get bumped enough. :)

We can have a race between San Antonio Spur fan Brent Barry man love (go to your own board and talk about him geez), Shawn Marion hatred, and D'Antoni is a moron. Which thread will win?

My money is on the Marion thread, based strictly on my own hateful contributions! :D

P.S. Shawn Marion cuts in front of people who were standing in line.

Shawn is one of the best players in Suns history. I don't know why some people need to bash him.
We all know what Shawn gave us as Suns fans, entertainment, effort and energy. Some of the best numbers in the game. He played a lot of minutes and he rarely missed a game.

Does he disappear at times? Yes he does.

In all seriousness, Marion's a great regular-season player, and he will do well with the Heat. They aren't going deep in the playoffs any time soon, so his weaknesses in that regard really aren't relevant.

I really want to emphasize I like Shawn, however, he made his own bed when he asked to be traded. Again, IMO, the reason Shawn is laying more stinkers this season is that he is having to come to grips he has lost some of his athleticism... not a lot... but enough for him to realize he has to work harder for what he gets and rely less upon his athletic ability. I do not forget the 8+ good years Shawn has given the Suns. I think where Shawn gets into trouble is that fans want to equate his salary proportionately to his production. Shawn has been a very nice NBA player and even a four time All-Star but his game could never measure up to his salary under the newer CBA.

When you rearrange the letters in "Shawn Marion," it spells out "Hair Snowman" and "Hair Man Owns."

What does it mean? Perhaps nothing, or perhaps that Shawn Marion is a minion of some sort of snowy dark lord who has an impressive mane of long, voluptuous hair.

Can you really afford to take that chance?

The Marion thread will die down during the playoffs, but the D'Antoni thread should catch fire.

I think Pat Riley's notorious practices are starting to take their toll on Shawn. He's not used to that.

I agree. Besides, everybody knows that the best snowmen are bald. Shawn Marion and his Hair(y) Snowman just don't belong in Phoenix.

Meanwhile if you apply the same rearrangement to Shaq, you get Equal Slain Hole.

Now who would you rather have on your basketball team?
