Players whose contracts are expiring generally have fewer options than they think. In most years, there are only three or four teams with more than MLE money available for free agents who are not committed to re-signing their own players.

Some of the guys who will be available 2009-10 (not counting restricted free agents and guys like Artest with major issues) suggest that Marion would have serious problems getting a below the cap team to use their money on him.

Gooden
Iverson
Sheed Wallace
Baron Davis
Eldon Brand (Player option next summer)
Maggette (Player option next summer)
Kobe has a player option
Lamar Odom
Kevin Garnett (Player option next summer)
Jason Kidd
Wilcox
Boozer has a player option
Okur has a player option

I'm not saying everybody on this list is better than Marion, but that Marion's leverage is likely to be fairly limited. I'd expect the Suns would try to re-sign him for more than the MLE, but not a huge amount more.

More resonable Trade Idea to add size.

Shawn Marion

For

Tyson Chandler & Bobby Jackson

Suns lose an allstar loved by the fans. Also lose a stat filler who does alot of everything.

Suns add a true center. Amare can now avoid guarding TD in the playoffs, keeping him out of foul trouble. Now have size to compete inside with Spurs. Suns also add Bobby Jackson, who is alot older, but still can step in at PG at times.

Would you do this trade?

Tyson, KT
Amare, Diaw
Diaw, JJ
Bell, Barbosa
Nash, Jackson

I would also like to see the Suns try to get a backup PF(Sean May or Ike Diogu) with a draft pick.

Suns would never do that trade. Nor would I.

Hell yeah, I'd trade Marion for Chandler! I wanted that to happen last year!

Problem is that there's no way in hell NO/OKC does it unfortunately....

I'll tell you my dream scenario other than Garnett....

That exact Marion trade.

Trade Thomas/Banks for Lewis (s&t)

Trade #24 and #29 for #14 or so to draft Splitter.

Sign a 3 in FA. Someone mentioned Wells on here - I'd go for that.

Draft Jared Jordan in the 2nd

Nash-Jackson-Jordan
Bell-Barbosa
Lewis-Wells-Jones
Stoudemire-Diaw
Chandler-Splitter

That's at least 9 deep immediately and 10 deep if Splitter's transition is relatively easy....

Me neither.

STAT and Chandler hate each other for one thing. Plus we would be giving up Marion who is a much better player than Chandler.

I thought it was just Chandler being envious of Amare, but Amare didn't really care. Well, he had no need to hate Chandler.

I dont think you could get up to 14 with those picks. But you never know.

I wouldnt go after Lewis myself, but I would try to aquire Mike Miller. He would be perfect for this team.

Oh, I'd even send Jones with #24 and #29 to get up high enough to grab Splitter. Basically, we can sit and wait out the draft and if Splitter has already been picked by our selection, offer a fair trade to the team that drafted him....

Miller would be a damned sniper on this team....

Injury issues concern me though....

Miller can handle the ball, he averages almost as many assists as Diaw (he played spot duty at the point)...and he's a lights out shooter from 3 point range in the 4th quarter.

I'm not too concerned with injuries...over the past three years he missed 26 games. During that same time period KT missed 46, Barbosa 46, Diaw 26, and JJ 20...and we haven't given them the "injury-prone" label yet.

And as many rebounds. I like him alot, but I dont remember if he can play much D.

Heaven forbid we got Kobe. I think that would be backtracking if anything. Kobe would cry so much unless Nash let him run the show, just like he did when Shaq wouldn't let him be the #1 in LA.

Kwame Brown would be a good fit, he is athletic enough to run, and strong and big enough to guard Tim Duncan.

In reality he is exactly what we could use. A big strong athletic center that plays good defense and is decent on the boards.

And we probably won't get Garnett, Rasheed Wallace, Marcus Camby, Tyson Chandler, Dwight Howard or someone like that... especially not cheap.

Brendan Haywood might be worth considering.
