One more time: Boris Diaw is in a base year contract situation.
Which only means that the Suns can only take back 1/2 of Diaw's $9mil deal...
...not a problem if the trading team is under the cap enough to absorb the difference.
...or if a third team under the cap is involved...
...or if the total amount of salaries involved still satisfies the 125% + $100K rule while dealing with the BYC issue. He is still tradeable....the options are just limited.
We don't know exactly where the cap line will be, but I'm guessing in the $52 to $54 million range. To absob Diaw's salary, this would men having tobe below $45 million. Considering the nature of the free agency market, it seems likely teams that are $9 million under the cap would prefer to take someone like Lewis than Diaw.
That's why I suggested trading Diaw to Memphis.
1. Works especially well if Iavaroni goes to Memphis because he still likes Diaw's talent, distributing skills, and matchup problems he can create...and it's doubtful they would go after Lewis with Gasol on their roster.
2. Stromile Swift and Mike Miller have been shopped before. Miller is obviously the better player, but I still think that Swift could play a role here. He's fast, athletic, and an excellent shot blocker.
Memphis will have a cap lock of $2.8 million due to their #4 pick, so they won't have quite as much cap room as it looks.
It would be a fit if Iavaroni became their coach....Cardinal really isn't a wing (he's a big who can shoot from the outside)...and Miller would be gone in the deal...Diaw would be the only one who could play the 2-5 positions...even the 1 in a pinch. In any case, the Griz have several wing guys including Warrick, Gay, Kinsey, Miller, and Cardinal. It is not clear that Diaw would be a great fit for them.
There simply aren't many teams that are far enough under the cap to make a difference. ... We don't know exactly where the cap line will be, but I'm guessing in the $52 to $54 million range. To absob Diaw's salary, this would men having tobe below $45 million.
Not if they send another player out as part of the trade. For instance, based only on the CBA, a straight-up trade of Diaw for Gadzuric ($5.7 million next season) works. The Suns are "adding" only $1.2 million, which fits into the 125% rule, and Milwaukee is far enough under the cap that they could absorb the extra $3.3 million to accommodate Diaw.
Also, the Stoudemire/Diaw package deals I've used to start threads, while perhaps not attractive from a basketball standpoint, work just fine under the CBA.
For a Gazuric/Diaw straightup trade to make sense...
Diener is free agent.
I'm not convinced that bailing on Diaw makes basketball sense. It might make financial sense, but trading an expensive guy after a down season is not likely to get much in return - especially with so few teams in a position to make a deal.
is a restricted free agent. Big difference between unrestricted.
here' an idea:
Suns trade:
Marion/Diaw/Banks
Suns get:
AK/Ratliff/Green/#5
Jazz trade:

Jazz get:

Celts trade:

Celts get:

Well, AK had a more disappointing season than Diaw and Banks combined, that's not really a far-fetchedJazz trade AK for Diaw and Banks? Gimme a break
