One time I wish I had HBO. Oh well. I'll wait for the BluRay version.

you can watch the episodes for free on HBO's website. they require you to register, but it's a free registration, then they give you access to last weeks episode as well as other supplemental videos.

I was not a fan of Band of Brothers but this first show caught my attention.

couldn't get that site to work at all. HBO is showing them for free on their site as well - just need to register for free on their site and then you get access.

So far there isn't that main charismatic character to get involved with like Dick Winters in BofB. That's the main thing that's missing in Pacific, IMO.

I agree with this.

After week 2 I feel the same as after week 1. Its good. But it isn't great. The characters aren't as good/interesting overall. I also don't feel the overall acting is as good quality as in BOB. But like I said its still good.

Been a bit disappointing so far. I'll definitely keep watching, but like you I expected The Pacific to be great and not merely good.

I think the producers made a mistake focusing on the "Lucky" character just because he wrote the memoir Helmet For My Pillow. He may be a good writer, but he makes a pretty boring character. I wish the show would move on and focus on someone else.

Hopefully, it will pick up in the coming weeks.

I feel the same way.

I kind of get the feeling that they automatically assumed (just as we did) that by just merely making this series it would be an instant classic. We wanted that, they thought it would happen, it was setup for some sort of "failure".

The banter and comraderie that was present in BoB isn't portrayed or done as well in The Pacific. Maybe it gets better as the series develops? I know that when I first watched BoB I quit because there were too many characters receiving face time and I didn't connect. It took the DVD series for me to truly appreciate the series itself.

Add me to the list as well. After watching last Sunday's episode, all I really can recall is the big night battle, and the Marines raiding the Army's supply depot.

Character development? I just don't see it right now. Then again, I had to go back and watch BoB 4-5 times to get all of the faces and stories straight.

yeah, agree with the rest. it's good, very good but it's living in the very large shadow of the greatest mini-series of all time, which is a tough thing to do.

I'm gonna reserve judgement until episode 5. Near every review of the series I read said the same things we're saying and then said come episode 3 and on, it took off like a rocket, finally allowing us to get into characters that as of yet have been decent but not amazing yet.

I love it so far. As many have stated it is less centrally focused so far on a main character. However, I see the focus narrowing a bit. The death of a friend hints towards that path IMO. I think this might be intentional. Following a larger group only to see the focus narrow as the mini-series goes on.

That night battle was intense and awesome. I love it so far. Also agree with Cheese that it's going to be hard to meet everyone's expectations because Band of Brothers was so incredibly awesome IMO.

Rewatched the 2nd episode last night - appreciated it much more.

To me the island hopping campaign and the Marines history is more important than any one character. You'd miss too much focusing on an individual, we've already seen highly decorated Marines like Chesty Puller and John Basilone but you can't focus solely on them as you'd miss too much of the overall story.

Part 3 was weird.... lol

Didnt expect a full episode of waiting. With a bit of skinimax thrown in for good measure.

I totally agree. The character they are following (Leckey) is a real bore and quite frankly not a very good actor IMO.

I was hoping they wouldn't dedicate an entire episode to Australia, but I can see why they did it. After Guadalcanal, the 1st Marine Div. was taken off the line for a full year to re-fit because they were so decimated by combat losses, disease etc.

That said, I liked Episode 3. I didn't think I would, but I did.

I kinda agree... the character he plays could be pretty damn compelling. But thus far, he's left me feeling underwhelmed.

I think I feel like I did with the first 2 episodes... wanting more... they seem to be flying thru the story. I just don't feel like they have taken the right amount of time to build the required depth to each episode... It's just far too fast-paced for me. Oddly, I didn't feel this way about Band of Brothers...

I have said pretty much the same thing is that we got to really get to know the characters early on in BoB.

I think the key to this is not expecting BoB all over again. Am I the only one really enjoying this? I have to say, the 3rd episode was pretty damn good ( the eye candy wasn't bad either :D ). Some here were critiquing the development of characters and now that they are doing it, people still find something lacking?

I came into this not expecting much and so far, I am quite satisfied with it.

it's a solid series, but for the most part, I could care less about the characters and agree with the rest, Lucky is a bore.

This is a great series. It's problem is it came after Band of Brothers and is by the same people. Everyone wants to compare it to Band of Brothers. If this came first the Pacific would be thought of as a truly remarkable series. I went in trying not to compare the two and I have found I am enjoying it much more than some of my friends who are constantly comparing it to Band of Brothers.

It's good, I'm enjoying it, but honestly what about the first three episodes would you characterize as "great"? Nothing really remarkable so far.

I agree...Band of Brothers probably spoiled things for us, but I've felt it's been a little slow. I have loved it, but nothing "great" or I haven't been "blown away" like BoB.

I did think this past episode, the love story, etc., was actually more of my favorite episode than the other two so far.

I'm hoping things really pick up...maybe these first three were more set-up than anything.

I do find the acting to be pretty good. The guy who plays Leckie has impressed me as well as the guy who is play Basilone.
