Well all that could be said about LMA, except rebounding although he seems to have low single digit rebounding games pretty often and has the highest rare of uncontested rebounds in the league.

I am more worried about Markieff checking out on us after trading Marcus for esentially nothing.

He's an inefficient scorer
46FG%, low 50s TS%.

He's an average defender, at best.
Almost 102 drtg and 0 dbpm
.7spg 1.0bpg

Poor rebounder
10rpg but 5th in uncontested rebound.

All that on a contract year. And he's already 29, so there's not much upside to his game and maybe 3-5 years from his decline.

Let's compare him to Greg Monroe.. Monroe is a more efficient scorer, better rebounder (TRB%) & slightly better defender (better DBPM). And he's only 24.

Compared to Al Jeff, LMA is only a year younger. Al Jeff scored more efficient prior to last season (last season was trash for Bobcats) and Al Jeff is a better defensive player than LMA (1.5-1.6 dbpm and 1.1-1.3 bpg).

Well, anyone would want to have a guy like LMA for FREE. But I think he's the type of guy everyone would regret after handing him out a big contract.

Yes. Absolutely. They need to set up a system to reward mediocrity instead or just abysmal failures.

Disappointing on not getting LMA but not really surprised as the Spurs and being in Texas were always his first choice. However, hats off to the Suns mgmt for putting together an excellent sales pitch. IMO getting Chandler and dumping Marcus will make the Suns a better team.

He's got a 7 year old son who lives in San Antonio who is ecstatic right now that he is going to see more of his Dad. LA made the right decision.

I would not be shocked at all of McD already has 10 trades lined up as a backup plan. None of which anyone would leak or expect.
If it became evident to us that Aldridge was not going to land here, I would hope that McD has worked up contingency plans to not count on Markieff to score and rebound consistently or take us to the next step alongside Chandler/Len.

Sadly, hoping Markieff continues to improve is his best option at the moment unless McD can swing a trade. Although I wouldn't mind bringing in Amare or Bargnarni for some depth.

If the Suns bring in quality depth to challenge Markieff, I would be satisfied. I'm not saying this is the best option but it is the hand dealt. Markieff is not a bad PF so long as the Suns can bring in another power player at this position. I'm counting on Chandler and an improved Len to be a presence on the frontline. This should help support Markieff, so long as he plays with intensity. The Suns bench is going to have to win some games this season if the Suns are to improve.

I bet Len gets some PF minutes too. I guess he's been working on his outside shot?

Len and Chandler on the floor together would be anti-Suns ball. But it would also be one of the best defensive front-courts the Suns have ever had. If Len can hit a jumper I see them playing together a lot.

Who can they bring in to challenge Markieff? David Lee?

Except San Antonoo is like nearly 250 miles away from Dallas. If he really wanted to "go home" and play near his family then he would have chose the Mavs who could have maybe put together a decent team with him, Jordan and the aging Dirk who can still ball. Carslie isn't Pop but he's still a good coach and would have found a way to make it work.

Instead he went ring chasing and signed with the Spurs but he can use the "going home" idea since the team is in the same state even though what he's really doing is ring chasing.

You lost me here. I said his son lives in San Antonio.

In April 2009, Aldridge's son Jaylen Lea Aldridge was born. Aldridge is separated from Jaylen's mother. Jaylen lives with his mother in San Antonio, Texas]

Personally, I am surprised there is such a long thread about this guy since it was known from the beginning that he was most likely going to San Antonio.

Darn. Whay can't AZ be littered with the illegitimate children of superstar athletes so that we have the competitive advantage in free agency for once?

He has family in San Antonio as well. Never let the facts get in the way of a good rant.

As a lifelong Suns fan, I'm sick of these moral victories.

They tried to sell me on this last season. "Hey the fact that Lebron even considered the suns is a huge moral victory!"

Now its the same SPIN with LMA.

We didn't get either player, so where is the victory? Next year when someone is a free agent are they going to say hey; LMA and LBJ passed on the suns, that really makes me want to play there.

I think it's more likely that they will say hey the suns are desperate they will make an offer, lets use them to apply pressure to the team I really want to go to. Like other guys clearly have.

The Suns used to be able to get their guy, (Jason Kidd, Barkley, Nash, Penny, Starberry) now we are satisfied just to be sitting next to the guy who gets asked to the dance. "Did you guys see that, she totally looked at me."

Not calling for anyones job, but lets call a spade a spade. It's the FO's job to get us players to be competitive, and to be competitive sooner or later you are going to have to get one of these franchise guys to bet on you, and they have failed in that task thus far.
