There is a lot to hate about this game....however...the props....

To Sendelin, for coming in and holding down the C position. Go away Leckey. The rook was really good. Hardly noticed Al wasn't there.

OL as a whole. Mistakes, yeah, but lightyears from the unit we had last year already and will just get better with repitition. Let's overpay Grimm to stay around for one more year...PLEASE!!

Edge...fought for yards, worked his ass off. Great game. You just can not judge this guy on the preseason. I was worried, but he's just fine.

Barr...much better than Player. Some of you don't see it but I don't see how. There were NO returns for more than a few yards. Lots of pinning inside the twenty and this one thing that Player lost the ability to do...hangtime!!

Pope...nice catches. Good stuff.

Dockett...he gets doubled all the time guys. Tonight he fought through one double to get a sack. He sucks up blockers...it is up to the rest to make the most of it.

Dansby...flying around making plays.

Calvin Pace...he seems to be ready to take on this OLB role in this hybrid defense.

Clancy, barring the last three minutes. I have to eat crow here because the defense was ready and shut Gore down. BTW, on that screen pass he got twenty yards on, Berry was being held HARD. Should have been a flag.

Green...hell of a game. Great breakups and good coverage. Too bad he couldn't have fell on that ball in the endzone or knocked it out, or he might have been lauded on this board as player of the game. He has done well at the CB1 slot, where I worried he'd be able to hang. Keep improving!

Bad Bad (Levi Brown), even though he got the false start, was strong for a rookie. He will only improve. I think we FINALLY picked a good tackle. Thank god, because we need one. He's still learning, but doesn't make a lot of mistakes. And I thought he'd be picked on like how we double rushed Staley. He wasn't.

The Defense as a whole. I thought they would get worked after the preseason but gave them the bennie of the doubt. Well given, as they rose to the occasion. One of the more consistent defensive games I've seen from this team, until they went into soft zones at the end and broke down.

Overall mentality to not give up after the start of the second half and the 5 or 6 penalties in a row. Former Cards teams would have allowed at least 14 points after breaking down like that. We didn't. Instead, we bucked up...got field position back and took the lead. Very impressive. VERY impressive. The real test now comes in shaking off a tough, tough, cardinalesque loss and bringing the good mindset to the game Sunday on short rest. I'm impressed in the way we responded to losing our flipping minds in those first few plays of the second half. Denny's teams would have folded like a cheap Prowings suit on Nolan.

Did I cover all the props?

I think after reflecting on this game, that I am most impressed in the number of third downs we stopped them on. In the preseason, third down killed us...murder one out there. If a team got a third down and anything, short or long, you might as well have moved the chains. Tonight when I begged them to make the stop from my couch...they did. Wow. I was impressed there.

If the offense can come around, and the defense was not a fluke, I seriously think we could push for the playoffs. Really. Not koolaid. A clicking offense and a defense that stops on third downs most of the time can be dangerous.

Remember, everyone...we are growing into this new coaching staff. I know they are disappointed and so are we, but there are a lot more things to be happy about than to be upset at. That's rare.

This isn't like the Rams, Chiefs and Bears loss last season. I like where we are headed and I'm happy we don't have a mirage in the opening game. We have possibly seen our passing offense at its worst, against a pretty good defense (I drafted the SF D late in our FF draft, as I think they will be good this year).

After not drinking any koolaid all year, I'm taking a few sips tonight based on things I saw on the field I did NOT think I'd see. I think the offense will come around. When it does...oh my.

Right there with you. I saw a consistent intensity I have NEVER seen this team play with. The hitting was infectious. That is what impressed me the most. They actually defended the screen and rarely overpursued plays. I am really liking Dansby at MLB. The guy is so long and rangy.

When I watched other teams for years they always seemed to play with more passion, more focus but not tonight. We just needed to make one play and everyone is happy.

I want to believe donald. I really do. But youknow whats going to happen. Next week they will go crazy offensively....and lose 35-42. Then we will lose game 3 because of a special teams gaffe. This team has no method to its madness. Thats whats so frustrating. This team never just brings every facet to the game, which ends up giving all of us fans hope because its natural to think '...well the offense was supposed to be our strong suit so if they come to play next week.....watch out." But in reality its your hopes and emotions that have to watch out because something will inexplicably go wrong. nothing ever makes sense with this team except that it ALWAYS ends up in a loss.

I think every Card fan had that feeling when the Niners got the ball back. You know what I am talking about. the feeling that even though nothing prior that had happend in the game wold lead you to believe that the impossible would happen - sure enough it would happen. So even though we had given up only 70 yards through the air, YOU KNEW Alex Smith would lead them down on that drive.

How demoralizing. I am not going to stop watching but damn this team just manages to trick me everytime and ripmy heart out. There WAS a lot of positive to look at from last night - but we still lost and around the nation you could hear the collective sigh.....

Same Ol' Cardinals......

I'm actually most impressed with Seidelin.

What sucks is Leinart, Fitz, and Q barely showed up in the game...

I agree and you have to give Edge his due! He had some hard earned runs to go with the better O line.

Kudos to the Oline on the two QB sneaks. In years past, one of those would have been stopped. We got push, which was a nice change.

A shout out for Lyle Sendlein. I thought we were finished when Johnson went down, but he filled in nicely...
