Doncic is a better player right now, and he is quite a bit younger. JJ may be a better fit with Booker, but that's a different argument.
That may be true and might not be. Bottom line is that we have seen what JJ is capable of against NBA talent and we don’t know at all yet what Doncic can do. I am pretty high on Doncic personally, but I think it is unrealistic to say for certain that he is a better player than Jackson right now.

I think we need to be realistic . Doncic is a no go...too expensive to get. Even Young would be very hard to attain...although possible. After those two we need to find a way to move up the #16 for any of the other decent pgs our there.

Maybe it's years of adversity but the Suns have worked hard to acquire their draft picks. I'm not ready to throw a bunch of them away on a player that is unproven.

The Suns are going to be looking at some eye popping trade offers this summer and they will have the assets and CAP space to get it done.

On what basis is Doncic a better player than Jackson right now? Jackson put up pretty much the same numbers last year as Doncic is putting up right now, except against the vastly superior competition in the NBA.

Known quantity beats unknown quantity in my book every time.

There is so much trash going on now on the internet about Ayton/Doncic.

Here is an article citing how the Suns are throwing broad hints that it is going to be Doncic to appease their new coach. Another Alvan Adams disaster to please a coach.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/phoenix-suns-not-doing-great-155011833.html

Then the story that Doncic may stay in Europe, to scare off other teams until the Suns can get him. Because he wants to play for the Suns (and his former coach). The inmates are running the asylum.

I am trying to psyche myself to care about nothing but the bottom line. If the Suns draft Ayton with the #1 pick, I'm in!

If McDonough (and his puppeteer Sarver) cave and bypass Ayton and draft Doncic, screw 'em.

Its Ayton. Everything else is clickbait.

Adrian Wojnarowski on Doncic situation.

Now, Doncic said he has been on the phone with Kokoskov congratulated him for Suns first pick. I guess Kokoskov gave him a hint about their pick.

The Suns added the hyphen over the S on their twitter name when they signed Kokoslov, this is clickbait trying to make a bigger story than it is.

Yeah, that is what got my attention. It sounds like a plausible explanation. I hope you're right.

Just a guess, but probably Igor told him that it's probably a lock they are taking Ayton, so decide what your next move will be. Hence, why the "I'm not so sure I am coming over now" hints started.

Not entirely unlikely that Doncic goes back to Europe for another year unless he likes whoever picks him. Barring an injury, it certainly won't kill him to do so, since he's still getting paid and everybody loves him over there.

If the Suns want him, it really wouldn't hurt them to wait either. They have two draft picks next year - and no guarantee that one of those doesn't end up in the lottery. Another year, another draft class, and it's entirely possible the stars align. Maybe Doncic is considered the surefire top pick come next year's draft... or maybe he slides down the board a bit in an other year and falls to the Suns (or wherever he prefers to go). You never know.

Ryan Mcdonough talks about Ayton and Doncic today. Both get excellent reviews.

I found the comments on Doncic particularly interesting.

Ayton: “A phenomenal physical specimen. He’s everything you look for physically in terms of size, strength, length and athleticism. Obviously, he was tremendously productive this year at the University of Arizona. He rebounds at a high level, his stroke for a young big I think is very good and very developed, the way he can not only score at the rim and above the rim but the way he can make shots away from the basket. I think for his size he moves his feet pretty well on the perimeter. There really aren’t a lot of holes in his game. Obviously like a lot of young players he needs to be a little better defensively, understanding off-ball rotations and concepts and things like that but that usually comes with experience.”

Doncic: “I’ve been in the league since 2003 and he’s the most productive European player I’ve ever seen. What he did last year in the EuroBasket (2017) playing for Igor, what he’s doing for Real Madrid is unprecedented in a couple of decades. Most Americans who haven’t seen Luka play in person will be surprised by just how big he is. … I think his physical measurements are similar to Joe Johnson, and Joe is a big, strong, thick guy. You see Luka on film or see the highlights, you see the skill, the high-level passing, the incredible feel and court vision but then you see him up close and say, ‘God, this is a big, strong guy who has produced at a high level.'”

hmmm... Joe Johnson is an interesting comp. A better passing JJ is a pretty great player if he hits his ceiling.

That's said, a new age David Robinson is better if Ayton hits his ceiling.

Holy stuffins I just missed the biggest thing about that interview. It is dated March 30th.

Suns were not known to be talking to coaches. Igor Kososkov was not the Suns head coach and Duffy flat connects them in this interview and then says "If I were a magician I would make it happen"

This is...wow...
Did this video get edited to take the Suns mention out of it? Because watching it now, there is no mention of the Suns. Just Kokoskov. And I did think I remembered him mentioning the Suns previously. The conspiracy thickens...

JJ averaged 17/5/2/2 on 44% shooting and 28% from 3 since the turn of the year. That's who he is RIGHT NOW.

You're telling me right now, that Doncic can put up those numbers in the NBA? Total speculation and he won't be near the defender JJ is.

And that's whats REALLY bothering me about the talk coming from the Suns right now. They talk about Ayton and his strengths, while saying he needs to get better on D. And yet they are slobbering ALL OVER Doncic while not even MENTIONING D.

And they've already said as great as his passing is, he's not a PG.

I don't like reading a lot of what I'm reading right now. This just isn't that hard of a decision.

I think Ayton is a less risk player who may become elite.

IMO, Doncic is a more risk player who may become elite.

I will take the safer choice and pick Ayton.

We better take Ayton #1. I'm sending an email to my Suns sales rep about tickets next year letting them know not to contact me if they pass on Ayton. It's the least I could do to make my feelings heard. I don't buy a lot of tickets but I do get anywhere from 10-20 a season and have bought flex packs in the past for 10 games throughout the year. I'd be open to doing that again but not until the draft has come to pass.

from your lips to God's ears, Chris! I PRAY you're right. I will blow my stack worse than that volcano in Hawaii right now if we don't. It'll be ugly. Like end of the world message board ugly. I really don't want that. I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want that!

Im with you. Just the thought of hearing Doncics name called at #1 while Ayton sits there makes me want to vomit. We would regret that decision forever

All of this mania over Doncic is really going to look comical in two or three years when he is (very likely) nothing more than an okay complementary player on some bottom feeder team. I would be comfortable betting the farm that he will be neither the "white Magic Johnson" nor the "European Larry Bird." Vastly more likely he ends up being the "white Billy Owens" or the "European Mike Miller."
Weird adjective usage

Yeah, I personally think Doncic is going to be really good, and probably the most "exciting" player of this bunch early on.

That said... I'm taking potentially "David Robinson with a 3pt shot" over that in a heartbeat.

What if your "threat" tips the scales and they draft Ayton KNOWING that there was a better player?

I feel strongly about Ayton being the better choice for us (over Doncic). But if I had the power, I'd fire everyone in the front office for taking my advice over that of the professionals that have analyzed these guys inside and out.

Plus I want the excitement of watching a dominating big for a change. We're owed that after five years of Len frustration and that wuss Bender.
