Seeing Paul Millsap at the top of that list at $30 mill per... and then recalling how some Suns fans (yes, even some forum members here) were advocating acquiring him as recently as this season... gives me pause when considering some folks ideas for "improving" the team.

Maybe you are right but I don't remember anyone wanting Millsap. There were posters interested in Blake Griffin.

Skimmed this podcast for that and heard Russillo say it twice. At 35:30 is the most definitive, and it's more of an "I heard that" statement, so who knows the credibility. Could be as simple as a source taking note of how often Sarver watches Doncic play and nothing more.

But yes, if Sarver overrules the basketball people on Ayton that would be an unmitigated disaster.

Another interesting thing I got from this podcast...

He said Duke players were asked who they would take from their teammates if they had the number one pick. Apparently, they all struggled to choose, but also all took Wendell Carter Jr, not Bagley.

The duke comment is fascinating. But I question the accuracy of a bunch of kids whose views might be impacted by personal feelings as well.

Definitely have to take it with a grain of salt, but it at least gets you thinking about Bagley and Carter and where their true value stands going into the draft. Carter does seem to be the type to do the little things while Bagley is undoubtedly flashier. Don't see either ending up on the Suns.

If we were talking about the #3 pick for KAT, I'd be very interested. Maybe even #2. But not #1. It's too great an opportunity.

I doubt Minnesota moves him but the first pick in this draft is all we have that we'd reasonably part with in a trade for him. If we had the 3rd pick instead, we'd likely have to part with JJ and multiple future number 1's.

Good grief. They sure pile it wide and deep this time of year don't they?

It was part of the "to tank or not to tank" argument. Some people thought Millsap was a good idea as an acquirable veteran "star" who could give us enough for a run at the 8th playoff spot. Some were proposing we go all in and trade a package of the several draft picks we own. I think some of the sentiment was due to disappointment about the Griffin thing.

It was a bad idea all the way around, as the result would have only pushed us out of the top of the lottery to much lower in the lottery... and further futility. But I guess quick (but foolish) fixes have an appeal to those who have no patience for building slowly but wisely.

This is the internet, no matter how inane an idea might be, you can always find supporters. But the Millsap (and Griffin) chasers were a definite minority here.

I want Ayton too, but "unmitigated disaster"? Really?

I might have to cut back on the message boards for a few days. I have been binging since the lotto. Need to pay attention to real life for a while. The draft is a month a way.

I just feel like if you're going to draft a point guard #1 overall, they need to be a Magic Johnson, Kyrie Irving, or heck, even an Allen Iverson.

Is Doncic at that level? I don't see it.

I get where you are coming from. I think Doncic is unique though. An overall very good player..but there is some gamble to him because his game is hard to describe or understand

I've been a big Doncic supporter. The Suns picking Doncic would not be an unmitigated disaster; Sarver at this point overruling the basketball minds on the #1 pick would be the disaster.

I kinda think it’s both.

I should hope so. It's amazing just how anti- the Doncic and Ayton camps are against each other.

Is it? I've said more nice things about Doncic than almost anyone on this board who isn't from Slovenia.

"if Sarver overrules the basketball people on Ayton that would be an unmitigated disaster."

To be clear, the "if Sarver overrules the basketball people" is the focus of that sentence. The "on Ayton" part is merely a prepositional phrase.

I'm good with either yeah I want Ayton but at the same time that big 7 foot low post rim protecting big man is a dinosaur in today's NBA. Who plays center for GS, Houston, Boston and Cleveland? Exactly I wouldn't be mad at either pick in reality
