Why would you do that?!? That’s a classic movie maneuver to inadvertently send yourself back in time and somehow influence the lottery so we slide to #4. You’re Dan Akroyd in that movie!
The beauty of it is knowing I cannot change the outcome. It's like standing 6 inches beyond the end of the doberman's chain and laughing.

Ha. I've watched enough Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera cartoons to know how that ends.

Haven't heard the podcast, but this seemed noteworthy:

Boston is reportedly looking to trade up to draft Bamba. If true it shows that Ainge recognizes the importance of a center to compete with Embiid in their division and other developing bigs around the league.

Trade up from 27? That’s a great distance. They’ll have to give up next year’s Sacramento pick plus additional assets as the sac town pick is variable.

Let's say Ayton tells the FO/coaching staff in interviews that he "prefers PF and doesn't want to play center". That he wants to be a scorer. What would you do then? Still draft him and hope he gives his all to playing center?

"We know that you will be more effective playing alongside a PF than playing against another C, the way you were held back in college. You can call the position whatever you like, but, to get the most out of your potential, we will be pairing you with a PF most of the time."

(Just leave out the part about whose PFs are.)

Tim Duncan always wanted to play PF. He did so alongside Robinson for a while. But for all intents and purposes, no matter what he was called, he was a center. Just tell him he’s a center and then deploy him however you see fit.

I always tell my teenagers, "You can want whatever you want but I'm the one with the money."

I would still draft him and hopes he gives his all playing center.

This is really the best way to handle it. Find out why he doesn't want to and let him know that he won't need to guard Centers the majority of the time but I'd push him towards Center. Does he really want to guard Draymond instead of Pachulia? I think there's only 2-3 teams where the Center would draw a tougher defensive assignment. Timberwolves, Philadelphia, and possibly New Orleans.

Sell him on playing Center in the same way Amare played Center. Don't let it be an issue.

It was mentioned on phx-suns.net (many cross-posters with us here) that he had preferred to play PF. Don't know if there is truth to it. But if he insisted he was a PF and not a center, then it would cause me pause with the pick. May be nothing. But I thought it was an interesting discussion point.

wouldn't do a thing for me pick-wise. he's still got the biggest upside/floor in the draft.

Ayton’s family lives in Phoenix and he wants to be a Sun and go #1. He’s begging McD to play center right now.

I highly doubt Ayton is going to be this rigid. Plus, the traditional 5 is obsolete and Ayton will have plenty of opportunities to stretch the floor. It would be a disservice if he weren't given the opportunity.

Also, this doesn't match Ayton's personality. He isn't a diva, at all.
