Let's say Ayton tells the FO/coaching staff in interviews that he "prefers PF and doesn't want to play center". That he wants to be a scorer. What would you do then? Still draft him and hope he gives his all to playing center?

Draft him and play him at PF. PF / C is interchangeable today anyway. Hell I think Bender would be better at C if he put on another 10lbs.

Pretty much my take on his defense. Ayton is getting a lot of flack about his defense that frankly makes no sense.

Does he really think he should play with Chandler next year? If he wants to be labeled as a PF then that is what he's saying. I could see that lasting 1 game. Let him play with Chandler for 10 minutes and then let him play 10 minutes with Bender. Then ask him which player compliments his game the best. That should end that discussion.

I'd recommend a different approach. Bender is incompetent, and if somehow Ayton were to get the impression that Bender is an example of what the Suns think they mean when they say "PF," he'll never want to see one again.

All this Center vs PF stuff is garbage.

Amare always did the most damage playing center. He created massive match up problems for opponents. Rarely was it a problem for the Suns.

We are really really bored.

Ayton hasn't said anything about not wanting to play center... there is literally zero to back this even being a topic.

I know we've talked a lot about what position Doncic would play in the NBA but in that case it made sense to discuss. When it comes to Ayton, it really doesn't. It's like we're looking for warts now. Next his haircut will be overanalyzed.

I heard he chews his fingernails, which isn't an issue in itself but it could cause him to get hangnails since he's always messing with them and that could effect his shot. How should that be addressed? :sarcasm:

Actually he has. Since his high school days he has considered himself a pf. I imagine his agent has told him that C is where the money is going to be for him.

I agree. If Ayton can play two positions this solves a couple of problems and helps in the rotation.

It's pretty simple, he's either ok playing center and going #1, or he's not ok playing center and ok with not going #1. I'm guessing that going #1 is more important than giving an ultimatum to a team about what position he plays.

He referred to himself and Booker as the next “Shaq and Kobe”. I assume he is well aware that Shaq was a center.

I can't believe we are discussing this. There is no evidence that this is an issue. Ah, it's good to have the number one pick.

It is comical how annoyed/angry some get over a discussion point. I wasn't claiming insider info. It would be legitimate issue, if it were indeed an issue. Doesn't necessarily make Doncic or anyone else a better pick. But it is something that IF I were the decision maker I would want to know. That is how the supposition was phrased. Some answered in that vein and I think I agree with their points.

It is an interesting point, but I am not sure there is much difference between the pf position and the center position anymore. In fact, I am not sure the pf position exists anymore. Now you have bigs, wings, and lead guards. The bigs play almost identically, whether f or c. The wings play the same too, whether or not they are sf's or sg's. Then you have lead guards or initiating guards. Teams run one, but sometimes two.

Ayton is a big.

We agree on this. The traditionally center's job was to guard the rim, rebound and score close to the basket. This has all changed. Now the C/PF needs mobility to score and defend away from the basket. Hopefully Ayton gives us all that.

I had to go in incognito mode to bypass AZCentral's paywall. I guess I've read too many of their articles recently.

Scott Bordow is the writer I follow there. He does a good job of covering the Suns. I find his information reliable.

If you clear your cache that should reset your count on their paywall also. It's not very sophisticated if it's that easy to work around.

Yeah. It's pretty silly. Basically the same people who actually still read newspapers can't work around their paywall and are forced to subscribe.

Scott Bordow is reason enough to subscribe though. He not only provides great Suns coverage but Diamondbacks coverage as well. Good journalists need to be paid... somehow... someway.
