Actually there's quite a story there.

The "house" is my sister and Brother-in-laws. They live out in the mountains here in the Idaho Wilderness.
The day I moved here from Phoenix, on the way home from helping me unload my U-haul, my neice found the deer as a young fawn beside the road, it was standing beside it's mother who had been hit and killed by a car. So my sister's family took it in, raised it on goat's milk until it was old enough to eat other things. It became quite tame, and would actually sleep with the dogs.
This pic was taken at thanksgiving. A couple of months later it was killed by a pack of wolves on my Sis's ranch in the deep snow.

...and the dog is my mother's "Jiggs". Together we take care of mom who has Alzheimer's. (That's why I retired and moved here).

Wow! I thought that the deer was fake. That is cool how they raised it. Not many people can say that they have had a deer as a pet.

Wow, Tango I thought that deer was fake too. Great story in the raising of the deer. But that is so sad about it getting eaten by wolves.

You can tell the deer is real by the reflective eyes.

It is quite common for deer to become "tame" in rural areas.

Sad, but true, the chances of that deer surviving after it's mother was killed were very slim. With the help of Tango's family, it probably lived longer than it would have.

True wierd pet story - When I was young boy my family had a pet skunk. It was "de-stunk" so to speak. For some reason my dad thought it would be fun to have and that the skunk would sort of be like a cat. It wasn't - turns out skunks are very timid and neurotic.

Hey - this is my 1000th post (that would be 7,000 in dog posts)! You guys really have me hooked here. I'm sure at least 956 of the posts were worthless - but the other 44 were totally riveting.:D

Bummer about the deer. And, sorry about your mother. Best wishes to you both.

I had a similar experience when we raised a Wild Boar from when he was a piglet. We had killed his mother when we went pig hunting and couldn't figure out what the dogs we going crazy about. Turns out they were playing with a baby wild pig.

Obviously he wouldn't survive so we took him home with us and raised him. My neighbor held him on his lap the entire way home. We named him Oscar (After Oscar Meyer, the intention was to raise and eat him) and he became quite tame. He used to chase after a tennis ball when we played with the dogs. I beleive he actually thought he was a dog.

Unfortunately my dad didn't believe he would be safe when his tusks grew in so he sent him to the slaughter house. Kind of sad but damn that was some good bacon.

Holy Bleep!!!!!!! Avondale, you aren't in Bosnia there, are you?

That looks exactly like the comman tent the first time I was in Bosnia. Of course, your Air Force, so you probably wouldn't be stationed in the Dog Pound (Camp Alicia...I gives a DAMN if the later troops renamed it Dobol, or whatever nonsense...we BUILT the damn camp!). I mean, the resemblence is uncanny!

I could have spent our entire trip to italy there. It was awesome (and not in the Valley Girl sense of the word).

What was she doing there? Working? Studying? Extended vacation?
