And nice attendance too by the way, a half empty stadium on Senior Night for the last home game for the best player in your program's history sure does scream rising program.

Hardly half-empty, I was there. and ASU is on Spring Break. might wanna check your facts.

Your about as on point as your avatar there big guy.

Stick to the JV fan forum and go talk up the high water mark for your basketball program there. We roll our eyes at the ASU bball fans. Its like a high schooler being invited to their first college party. You have no idea how to act.

We have hit a rough spot but likely will still make the tourney for a record breaking 28th or something straight year. You guys are going on 1 starting next week. Awesome and you totally should be here running your mouth and yukking it up:sarcasm:

Balance will be restored sooner rather then later in the world of NCAA basketball in Arizona. You better hope the same can be said of ASU football.

oh my god the T-Town inferiority complex is getting worse. You guys are more scared than i thought about the fact that the tides are turning. You sound like the old timer that can't stand that the new kids with the baggy shorts are hanging on the rim. Sorry for invading the club, but get off your high horse. Talking down to me with the "big guy" and the "JV fan forum" is laughable.

ps. if you're even paying attention over on the Cardinals board, you will know what the St. Pierre avatar is all about. But on par with the rest of your post it has nothing to do with the argument other than a cheap-shot.

Tons of schools are on spring break right now. I didn't see any ranked teams this past week playing to 2/3rds full arenas. Just ASU.

i don't get what point you're making. I really don't. Our fans suck so the team does? It sounds like the "but they don't even care about basketball!" typical whining crap. The stadium was nice and loud 2/3 full and we spanked a good Cal team. So can you tell me what your point is?

Pot meet kettle. See below.

Unfortunately for you most of the UofA fans on this board and in general don't live in Tucson so those insults really don't affect us. And have fun explaining how a program that is currently playing and recruiting like a middle of the road Pac-10 team team and is almost assuredly a borderline NIT team next year is some sort of rising power.

And exactly zero Arizona fans are scared about our future as $2.5 mil annually gets any school a talented coach. But you'll find all that out in a few weeks at which point you'll give your best effort to marginalize the hiring despite the coach's ridiculous resume compared to the almost everybody else in the Pac.

The point? ASU fan sucks. Period. No one said the team sucks, but your fans sure do. Fans of real teams tend to show up. It just shows that you guys are noobs when it comes to winning basketball. That a team can be ranked the whole year and rank in the middle to lower end of the conference in attendance is pretty pathetic.

I have never marginalized of the possible coaches you guys have named, I think Lute was a good coach, results don't lie, but I think it's funny how you all are giving this unnamed coach savior status already. And in regards to living in Tucson, I assume you went to the school, the attitude of the city and the school are the same.

hey Chaplin, I found a place for your juvenile word. did this guy seriously just use the word noobs? Yea, we are new at sweeping UofA, but I could get used to it. And you're talking to a guy who has been to every game this year, so I don't really care if other ASU fans "suck" even though this is far from the truth. You're fan base is intent on keeping ASU down, because you all have the inferiority complex. Thats why you belittle small points such as bitching when we rush the court, mock us for "actually selling out a basketball game", talk about how this is our only good year because of Harden, etc. If you are all as confident as you think, I would think you would just sit back and wait for the messiah of a coach who is sure to come next year and put this program back at the top.

Any more funny than you anointing Herb Sendek and his one Sweet 16 appearance in 15 years of coaching the steward of a power program? Our new HC will have double the resume of Herb at minimum. And there's too many proven winners out there who I know will take the job for me not to be optimistic.

And in regards to living in Tucson, I assume you went to the school, the attitude of the city and the school are the same.
Not really. If such was the case then 90% of the schools graduates wouldn't bolt from Tucson the day after graduation.

Says the guy who is chirping away on a rival's board.

I'd be ripping on any ranked team that only draws 9000 in a 14000 seat arena. This has nothing to do with a feeling of 'inferiority'. I have degrees from both schools. I have no problem with ASU being good. That's great.

I'm thrilled that you've been to every home game this year. That's what fans are supposed to do. Too bad there are not more like you in the stands.

I didnt say we were a power program by any stretch of the imagination. I said a program on the rise, but nice try.

You can't wait a year? Arizona's not a tournament next year regardless of who they hire.

The new guy will start another in 2011 though.

I think my initial post says I expect it to be next year (although younevaknow). How long I wait isn't really up to me, is it?

Oh boy - I went to jr high/high school in Tempe spent 4 years in Tucson to get my degree and now live in Ft Lauderdale. A 'T-town' inferiority complex is something I don't have.

Don't come here flaming us unless you want to get talked down to....Your not on our level as a basketball program period. One above water year doesn't mean you can all of a sudden come in here and talk the talk. Thats whats laughable. That would be like me going to the FSU football boards because we won a bowl game this year. That wouldn't make much sense now would it?

You should be repping your Cuse if you want to talk NCAA bball - at least they are in the same ball park as us. But where did you graduate from? Did you graduate? what alliance fo you have to either school? I am confused for you.

As for the St Pierre avatar. I am on the Cards board. I know what it means. I think its silly IMO.

But you kids in your baggy shorts are going to do silly things, now aren't you? ;)

I didn't come in flaming you guys, all I'm saying is the tournament committee very much appears to look at more than the resume when selecting.

As for my affiliation with my 2 schools, I was born in Syracuse and lived there til I was about 10. I will never stop being a fan of Syracuse, I was raised as a Syracuse fan. As for ASU, I am a freshman there. Not very confusing IMO.

Thats pretty low... ASU fans do not suck, they are as passionate and knowledgable as sports go, unfortunantly in Phoenix, its hard to compete with the Suns/Coyotes/Arts/ect... and ASU not having a long history of success plays into it as well....

However the attendance continues to grow in the Sendek era, and will only get better..

Calling ASU fans out for sucking is not accurate.. imo

I don't think their fans 'suck', but realistically, I think they are hitting the high water mark. Like others have said, this is their best team in a decade and Harden is probably the best player that ASU has ever had, and they still only get about 2/3 of the place full.

PHX just isn't a college basketball town and probably never will be.

Much like football at UofA, college basketball is merely a nice distraction until football heats up for ASU fans. It's exactly why neither ASU Hoops or UA Football will ever be truly great - not enough people care and those that do have too low of expecations.

Jeez...sounds like you have a hot insider scoop on who the next coach will be. They way you are pimping him, it must be either:

A: Jesus
B: John Wooden in his prime

:D

Completely disagree. If either program had any sustained success, the fans would come...it's proven time and time again, Americans are quick to jump on the bandwagon of a winner.

Ironically, you need not look further than U of A to show how quickly a program can rise to prominence. U of A basketball was a joke before Olson got there, and now is a top 20 program. I doubt 25 years ago anyone cared about U of A ball, or had any expectations.

Funny how ASU fans show no intelligence whatsoever when talking about sports.

Funny how you show your intelligence by pluralizing an entire fan base based on your limited anecdotal experiences. C'mon Chap, you're better than this.

I have my hunches but I'm not 100% sure who the coach is going to, nobody does until that guy signs the dotted line and that won't happen for three weeks or so. But I do follow college sports, have a good idea about who would and would not take the job, know our salary figures, and realize that you get what you pay for in this kind of thing.

ASU has been pretty successful (for their standards) the last two years and you still only have 9k for a nationally televised Senior Day weekend game that featured two of their all-time great's last home performance. Arizona Football had their best season in over a decade this last year and there were scores of empty seats for a big game late in the seaosn against Oregon State and they could't even sell out their end of their bowl game just a quick drive away from Tucson. Arizona's 1998 team that went 12-1 sold out just two games I believe and their Desert Swarm teams never drew that well. How do you explain that other than general apathy?

And the sustained success point is somewhat moot in ASU's case as they'll in all likelihood be a pretty poor team next year.

Ironically, you need not look further than U of A to show how quickly a program can rise to prominence. U of A basketball was a joke before Olson got there, and now is a top 20 program. I doubt 25 years ago anyone cared about U of A ball, or had any expectations.
Top 15 program.

And Arizona pulled it off for a few reasons. First was luck, when Lute got courted during the latter part of the 80's it was the golden age of Arizona Athletics. Football was solid and baseball was still doing well so they had some money to sink into the program to match Kentucky's offers to Lute. We were also fortunate in that Lute was never interested in the NBA. Same can't be said for ASU. You really think Lisa Love could match a $2.5 million salary for Herb Sendek if say the deep pockets of Maryland came calling next month?

Where would she get the money from? Nobody goes to the games.
