I think I have heard a few times in the past several week about the charts as a whole being mostly outdated and not really relied upon anymore. This was on the Sirius NFL radio. Those guys might have it all wrong though.

Not many safeties available anymore in this draft. I'm happy the cards were able to get a good one and get an extra pick while doing it. Seems like a win-win for the team.

What other trades under BA & SK have the Cards been on the short end of the stick?

I meant Cardinals as a whole since they came to Arizona. I struggle to think of any trade we have done well on. Of course that Kolb one seems to obscure so much.

And perhaps I am being a bit guilty of holding Keim to a higher standard than his predecessors.

I consider the Levi Brown to Steelers trade to be awesome. I didn't care what we got back, just wanted him off the team.

Didn't that get negated when he never played? Basically the same as cutting him.

The Cards came out pretty well on the Ryan Leaf trade. I think we ended up on the right side of the Alan Brach/Zach Miller deal. I think we ended up on the right side of whatever trade brought us Daryl Washington.

The trade value chart is nice in a vaccuum, but if you don't trust the Super Scout to locate a good player with the pick, or are at least willing to find out whether he's good, it's going to look bad.

Remember: We used the pick that we got to move back and take Kevin Minter on Andre Ellington (I guess--whatever). That seems pretty good now.

This is the least exciting/most concerning first round draft pick since we drafted Levi Brown in 2007. I think that's why there's a lot of (IMO false) cheer and some grumblings.

Just heard some good dirt on why the Eagles got a slightly better trade for #22 than we got for #20. Apparently there was a bidding war between the Vikings and the Browns for the pick to draft Johnny Football.

Here is the article my Minnesota friend sent me:

http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/258562481.html

Great point, and Sirius NFL Radio just discussed this.

There was a bidding war between MIN and CLE for #22, so naturally, the price was driven up. I'm not convinced we had more than one suitor for #20.

Still, having two 3rd rounders instead of one is a great thing. Despite what the antiquated metrics say, we did not get fleeced.

It hasn't been the splash draft I was hoping for but there are mitigating factors. First you have to have a trade partner and I'm pretty confident they got what they could with the extra 3 pick. Secondly, we're obviously drafting for need rather than BPA and there just isn't a lot of depth at Safety and TE. They REALLY think we can win now and are doing everything possible to fill holes and provide depth.

If their evaluations of the team are correct, and the rooks improve us at S and TE (and whatever else we get), then we will be VERY good and they will be brilliant moves. If we go deep in the playoffs nobody will care that Manziel isn't watching from the bench.

I refuse to compare a trade we made to a trade the Browns made in panic mode to get the next Colt McCoy.
