I don't know if anyone here realized it, but they had another post-credits scene featuring one of our favorite characters... I didn't know until this morning.
I did not, but that brings to mind another screw-up from early in the season. They teased Morgan and then utterly forget about it. Yeah, sure, maybe they'll bring him on late in the season, but that was just a waste, placing it where they did.

my big question is... what the hell does Morgan coming back have to do with anything? is he going to be a guy with a grudge... and if so, for what reason? they're teasing him out there like him reuniting with the gang is going to be this big moment, but I can't imagine.
I've read that Morgan's appearances are supposed to happen at considerable distance from the events of the show (e.g. vines have grown up over the Terminus sign, etc.). His appearance would probably have been more intriguing if it happened only after the mid-season finale, but the fact is that it got a lot of play after the premiere--and probably brought some wayward viewers back even if it wasn't all that necessary.
As for his function--I'm not sure that matters yet. The assumption now is that he will catch up with the group at a future point, in another location and presumably in another conflict. And he's a wild card: does he have a grudge? Is he still crazy/consumed with grief? He's out there alone, so must be a bit of a badass. And we've seen his tactical abilities before. I don't mean to defend all the narrative decisions or anything, but it will be fun to watch the second half in the knowledge that he's approaching (hopefully he actually gets there...)
As for this episode,
the thing I do question is Beth's death--or rather, why she needlessly precipitated the situation. When she hid the scissors in her cast, it seemed like it was in case something went wrong--and we probably all assumed something would go wrong. But I don't get why she would stab Lerner after the exchange was made (for which her group had risked a lot) and when two tense and heavily-armed groups were facing each other in a hallway with no cover. She was shot reflexively and cleanly, and then Lerner was killed with a clean head-shot herself. Seems very likely that the situation could have resulted in open fire.
I am sick of the Priest's Character, he brings nothing to the show and I do not understand why he gets so much play. I never read the comics and maybe he turns out to be a Ben from Lost type character. But, I wish he would be killed off already.
Additionally, I echo the frustration with Morgan being shown in the beginning and end and feel it was pretty useless. They may have just shown him in the final episode of the mid-season and that's it.
You should have seen the actress on Talking Dead afterwards. She was brought to tears about the death of her character and how she'd miss her new (actor) friends by not working on the show again.

yes pretty weird,there was not any reason to risk the life of her friends,
ok lerned used beth for her purpose but she didnt do nothing really bad to justify beth attempt to kill her
Something that I haven't seen mentioned before is what Dawn mouthed before she was shot in the head -- it appeared to be "It wasn't me", and if you look at the kill shot of Beth, it appears to enter in her forehead and out the back of her head, yet Dawn's gun was low and pointing up.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned either thing, not only here, but across the internet. Unless we're just assuming that the FX people are the same ones that did the ridiculous "van-on-the-bridge" stunt.

reality for me is this... writing TV is hard. It's REALLY hard. I'm currently going out of my mind trying to write my second episode of the show I'm working on, so I hate slamming other writers. I I just think Dead has so much freaking potential and I get frustrated because I don't think it ever reaches it. this season started out SUPER STRONG, but I think it just went off the rails.

Yes, I hate the episodes where it focuses on only one segment of the group. Right now I'm stoked that the group is all back together, they are in completely new terrain, and god knows what is coming next. It's like the show just got a re-boot.
I'm also excited that a certain character is back. I freakin' love the actor that portrays Morgan ever since his stint on Jericho.
Reading inter-web articles about the future I learned that the group is heading into more pain and un-charted territory as far as testing their cohesion and ability.

I just read an interview and it appears the second half of the season is going dark. Maybe these last few episodes were just a setup to set the mood for the group. At least that was the impression I received from the interview I read today.
There actually might have been a method to the madness tonally and they said that basically this death sets the tone for the remainder of the season. I wish they had found a more interesting way to do it but......here is to hoping to a kick ass final 8.
I have multiple people telling me that they rewound and played it over again and that's not what she said. Me? I'm not sure. What's more damning is the angle of the shot to Beth's head. It should have come from underneath her chin, not her forehead.

That same interview I read with the writer discussed that. He said it was Maggie's way of dealing with her missing sister. It indicated that it was the only way she could stay focused. They said the final 8 episodes will deal with her despair. Although I agree they should have made it a little more obvious.

That's been an ongoing issue around the internet for weeks now. To take it further, when she was separated from Glenn on the way to Terminus, she continually wrote messages on signs for him, but not for her sister.
There are a few theories -- she knows her sister isn't the strongest warrior in the bunch and might have assumed that she was already dead. That explains her extreme reaction when she is finally told by Michonne that Beth is alive. Then of course, hours (or days) later, she actually sees the dead body of her sister. She breaks down hysterically. That could make some sense I guess.
Then again, Glenn and Maggie have pretty much become background characters with nothing interesting to offer other than being the only real relationship on the show. I have a feeling that this may jumpstart them, or at least Maggie, who will probably go to a pretty dark place. It's one thing thinking someone is dead, but holding on to a bit of hope she is alive, it's another to see your sister's dead body not a few feet away from you.
