I just want to say: Thank You Cardinals for a wonderful season! Sorry we lost the big game, but the season as a whole was well worth the pain I had to endure at the end...I really believe this is only the BEGINNING of many more exciting seasons to come. In 1972 the Steelers won their very first Division title after 40 years of utter futility - it was their beginning point at being the laughing stock NO MORE .... this is OUR beginning! It IS all about the future ! and I think it is a bright one! ... as proof there is a Cardinals' Nation too ... here is my families CARDINALS Super Bowl party (still can't believe we got to have one!) .... We flew our flags on our cars all week and got plenty of stares, and plenty of thumbs up too! Been a Cardinals fan since I was 8 ... that was 1969 ... I will continue to "represent" here in MEMPHIS! GO CARDS!!!

every team with a large fan base, at some point, had a moment that compelled casual observers to make the emotional committment to the team ---

Here in the valley for example -- the Suns had 1976, 1993 and the last three years or so-- people got interested, got invested and many stayed

Wolfley likes to consider the Cardinals "modern" era as post stadium. I tend to agree. This year was the first year the team got casual observers of the NFL in the Valley interested and forced them to make an emotional committment to the team. This is the first year the team forced all those people who may have been (for example) Chiefs fans because they lived in KC twelve years ago and follow them out of habit a chance to switch.

I guarantee that many of the "first timers" who went to the NFC championship game are now hooked.

I was at the FBR Open on Saturday and was stunned at the amount of Cards gear I saw walking around.

Hopefully, this is a new era in many respects.

Cardinal Nation: Let's choose to ENJOY this week - I will not be depressed! The future is bright. I wish I lived in Phoenix and could call the local talk shows and make my voice heard. I want ownership to see it the same way. RE-SIGN the core of this team and let's keep moving UP. We deserve a World Championship now. I've moved beyond "hoping" for it... now I WANT it! Go Cards!

Much of the Cardinal nation is right here on the board. Until we ended up in the big game I thought I was the only Card fan in all of Arkansas. Now if find a few fans appearing on the streets and in the papers. Where were they when???? We got more publicity in this one year than we have in the last 30 years. We at last were what we thought we were.

I think there are a lot of Cardinals fans in the Missouri, Arkansas, West TN area ... from the "Old Days" when they were just "up the road". There's no question it's been hard to be an "in your face" kind of fan for a loooooong time. I welcome all the long-time closet fans to come out for good. So this team it has fans ALL OVER the country.

Been a fan for 35 yrs since I was 8. No band wagin fan here. Always proud to wear my Big Red attire around town. Sad they lost but very proud of the way they played this year. Really proved something to the fans out there. Even people I work with who dogged them the entire season (NFL WORST DIV CHAMPS, LLUCY IN THE PLAYOFFS) AND ETC came up to me yesterday and said the team played a great game.

WEll guys I sure am proud to be part of this cardinal nation. Its been a tough couple of days. I still cant believe we were less than a minute away from the lombardi. THis one is going to sting for ever. I just hope we didnt lose our only chance. I love this team and i am so proud of this team. LAstly im tired of hearing the steeler fans b***h about us upset about the refs. Plain and simple, holmes celebrated with ball= 15 yard penalty, Kurt was obvioulsy throwing the ball and his hand was goin forward= 1 more play for the win. Thos were just two calls in the last minute that were horrible. I dont want to get into the whole game. Oh well, next year we gotta believe and do it again. RISE UP RED SEA!!!!

Indeed!

You know at my work , I work with alot of guys. Some are Pittsburgh fans of their team out there. Have been for a long while, ever since I've known them, anyway (10 yrs. and more). There were alot of them that said , because of the heart the Cardinals played with , coming up from behind and all the whole game, that they wouldn't have been upset if the Cardinals had pulled this upset off.

As a matter of fact one said , "the Cardinals are the better team, RIGHT NOW!"

sigh...if only for a nother play or two.

Expanding the Cardinal Nation...

I've posted something similar elsewhere, but this thread calls attention to our need to take advantage of the newfound love for the Cardinals as the result of having a national platform to show what we're made of.

I hope the Cardinal Marketing Dept. is working on strategies designed to expand "the Cardinal Nation" so that, no matter which city we play in, there will be a large and loud contingent of Cardinal rooters. (We are a fun team to follow. Why not us)?

We need more national tv appearances. Our logo'd material has to be available in the boonies. There needs to be more pro-active outreach between the team and its more distant fans.

Let me give you a "for instance" - As I was (literally) drafting this post, the phone just rang, and it was a representative of the NJ Devils alerting me to a bunch of family ticket packages and "throwback jersey night." How cool is that?

I realize "you can't force people to be Cardinal fans" but we've got a little bit of momentum here and I hope the team brass rides that puppy as far is it can take us.

Lot's of fans of teams graft on from the national TV games, we've just had 4 in a row, we already have fans and like you said you can strike next year I think through innovating marketing.

we're going to get a minimum of two MNF games I'd guess and that will help a lot plus probably a Sunday nighter or two.

We should get at least 3 national games next year and those or around those are great times to blitz things a bit with merchandise offers, email campaigns, things like that.

If I was in charge of marketing I'd try to get some email list somehow based on people who read this board or boards like it plus maybe other message boards, sort of find those people and offer them really sweet deals on merchandise by email.

Authentic jereseys for near team cost, hats shirts, stuff like that if you can get them representing it's like free marketing anyhow.

I think the best way ever to get new fans is schools, make deals with schools to offer free team gear, shirts, hats stuff like that my daughter goes to school in KC here, at the start of the playoffs no one knew who we were and by the end they loved us.

They'd wear the gear and the parents would latch on by osmosis, but kids are where it's at, those become lifelong fans.

Perhaps the marketing department can tag along with all the fundraisers schools do like offer the gear as prizes for making quota's and stuff.

Perhaps let them select a Fitz jersey as a prize, things like that if you got creative with it you can do a lot with a relatively light budget.

You know -- they have MY name and address! I've ordered from the team shop many times! what's funny is - I used to get an occasional "Cardinal Update" newsletter. Probably 2-3 times a year. Back in about 95? 96?. I assumed it was because I had an out-of-town address - but I don't know that? I bet I still have a few of those. Don't know why they did it, or why they stopped. But they did it for at least one year that I remember. But yes, I agree they should do more to PROMOTE the fact the team has fans OUTSIDE of Phoenix! and that's a good thing!
