I've posted something similar elsewhere, but this thread calls attention to our need to take advantage of the newfound love for the Cardinals as the result of having a national platform to show what we're made of.
I hope the Cardinal Marketing Dept. is working on strategies designed to expand "the Cardinal Nation" so that, no matter which city we play in, there will be a large and loud contingent of Cardinal rooters. (We are a fun team to follow. Why not us)?
We need more national tv appearances. Our logo'd material has to be available in the boonies. There needs to be more pro-active outreach between the team and its more distant fans.
Let me give you a "for instance" - As I was (literally) drafting this post, the phone just rang, and it was a representative of the NJ Devils alerting me to a bunch of family ticket packages and "throwback jersey night." How cool is that?
I realize "you can't force people to be Cardinal fans" but we've got a little bit of momentum here and I hope the team brass rides that puppy as far is it can take us.
Lot's of fans of teams graft on from the national TV games, we've just had 4 in a row, we already have fans and like you said you can strike next year I think through innovating marketing.
we're going to get a minimum of two MNF games I'd guess and that will help a lot plus probably a Sunday nighter or two.
We should get at least 3 national games next year and those or around those are great times to blitz things a bit with merchandise offers, email campaigns, things like that.
If I was in charge of marketing I'd try to get some email list somehow based on people who read this board or boards like it plus maybe other message boards, sort of find those people and offer them really sweet deals on merchandise by email.
Authentic jereseys for near team cost, hats shirts, stuff like that if you can get them representing it's like free marketing anyhow.
I think the best way ever to get new fans is schools, make deals with schools to offer free team gear, shirts, hats stuff like that my daughter goes to school in KC here, at the start of the playoffs no one knew who we were and by the end they loved us.
They'd wear the gear and the parents would latch on by osmosis, but kids are where it's at, those become lifelong fans.
Perhaps the marketing department can tag along with all the fundraisers schools do like offer the gear as prizes for making quota's and stuff.
Perhaps let them select a Fitz jersey as a prize, things like that if you got creative with it you can do a lot with a relatively light budget.
