Some time ago I said that Dockett was starting to demonstrate leadership and that Eric Green was hungry.....and K9'S response was along the lines that my comments were just pure optimism with no substance. This is my response.....k9, you are completly wrong. May I suggest that you review our staff bio's and if you really can connect the dots, you'll see where my "information" might come from....."nuff" said.
Here's what I'm buying:
a) Elton Brown may not make the team, but I'm buying that he will. How can you give up on a mammoth G who played pretty darn decently as a rookie. Yes, he needs to get in better shape, but how can you give up on a 4th round pick who might have been a realistic 2nd rounder in 2005...and as a depth player, and as a potentially developing player with a good cap number, it makes zero sense to let him go. Hell, he is still PS eligible.
b) Oliver Ross as the opening season RT....I'm buying.....but he'll get hurt at some point and Levi Brown takes over.....forever.
c) Al Johnson as the starter at C....I'm buying. He is simply stronger, more experienced, and a leader.
Here's what I'm selling:
a) Gabe Watson is a bust....I'm selling. Anyone who outperformed his draft round position and who made the 53 man roster and played throughout the season as a rookie is not a bust. And coming into camp at 305 versus 335 pounds tells me the teams that passed on him will be sorry.
b) Shipp as the number 2 back....I'm selling. See below.
c) The O-Line sucks....I'm selling. I know, the proof is in the pudding but this works both ways. Grimm gets it all figured out and after all he has Whiz's ear and respect. Big difference between Green and Loney versus Whiz and Grimm. Grimm has the right type of players to make this a potential strength on this team....and watch the difference this will make for JJ Arrington....see above.
d) We reached for Alan Branch at #33...I'm selling. This guy will be the reason we can move to a 3-4 quicker than a NY minute.
I have seen enough of JJ to think he cannot run behind any line. A good running back can make some yardage anywhere. Maybe not 1500 yds but make yardage. James made over a 1000 behind our crappy line. Emmit made over 1000 yds at his age behind our crappy line. JJ just does not have the "it" or mentality to be a bigtime RB. Like the lion in the Wizard of Oz he needs to go out and find a heart.
