I bet we can get Troy Murphy right now and dont even have to give up too much.

The Nets are trying to cut salary so they can get 'Melo and would probably unload Murphy's contract for a cheap expiring contract like Clark but we'd probably have to give up a little more to make salaries work.

Murphy would be perfect in PHX. He brings GREAT rebounding and a physical presence in the paint. He's also a mediocre 3pt shooter which can be helpful in our offense.

He'd start along with Lopez and Frye can be sent back to the bench where him and Dragic play great together.

That way we'd have a shooter and a post guy on both units but now our rebouding also takes a huge boost. Lopez would be the post guy & Murphy would be the shooter in the starting unit and Barron would be the post guy & Frye would be the shooter on the bench unit.

I like this cause we're not trading any of our good players away and yet improving significantly on the glass.

A little more? Murphy is due to receive $12M this season. The only expiring contract we have to make that work is Richardson.

Then PHX can send Turkoglu and NJ can send Harris to SAC since their looking for a ball handler to take pressure off Evans. Then SAC can sent NJ Dalembert, another expiring contract.

This way all 3 teams benefit;

NJ gets more expiring contracts and maybe even draft picks from PHX
SAC gets TWO decent ball handlers
PHX gets what they need to push them over the hump to become a contender; a comitted rebounder with mediocre perimter shooting. Plus gettin rid of Turkoglu's contract is a bonus.

And maybe we can send Warrick to NJ or Denver since he was 'Melo's team mate at Syracuse so it might help em in their bid to get 'Melo for the longterm. Hahahaha jk about this.

Uggh. Unless you're talking about 3rd rounders, I'd hate to give up any draft picks for an over-priced stop gap player. I say we sit around and pretend to be Seattle and when their owner mandates they cut salary we can demand 2 first round picks to take him off their hands. Then, we trade him to LA for a future first and we're right back in the playoff hunt in a few years. We may have to move the franchise to Lincoln, Nebraska but I hear it's lovely this time of year.

BTW, before you pounce - yes, I know the NBA draft is just 2 rounds. And I'd love to have Murphy but only at the right price.

Yea because Favors and Humprihies are ahead of him.

He isn't getting minutes or else I'd bet he plays well.

I hope the Suns make no deal for draft picks this year, what a yawn of a class.

According to yahoo sports and hoopsworld, Suns are very close to sending Turkoglu to Orlando.

I wonder for what though...

Supposedly Washington is sending them Arenas too so they would need to send some decent players to Washington. Plus considering how big Arenas and Turkoglu's contracts are, it'll be interesting to see where Lewis and Carter end up. We bettet not get Lewis and his billion $$$ contract though.

All I have read says the Suns are shopping Turk, but I havent seen anything saying a deal is close though. And I can't see Orlando being willing to take on a salary cap cancer like him when they already have the highest payroll in the league. Thanks for getting my hopes up though :bang:

Seems like the Suns are always on the short end of a deal. Yeah OK the big Croissant trade that got us J.Rich and Duds was pretty good but outright steals are rare. Not since we got Joe. I want Randolph and Speights.

I think the rumor is that they'll send Lewis to Washington and Carter and Gortat to us. I have no idea how credible it is but the Phoenix side of the deal has been suggested/rumored before. Thanks to the internet we've kind of lost sight of the difference between suggested (made up) and rumored (leaked).

At least we're trying to do something. Rumor has it that Babby isn't on the road trip with the team because he's busy working the phones in Phoenix.

Vince Carter (2011-12 is partially guaranteed for $4,000,000 if waived before 6/30/11)

fit Sarver's style :mulli:

I don't understand that statement. Carter is considered an expiring by everyone because it's a given that his final year would be bought out. If the Suns trade for Carter, J Rich would be included, and as you know J Rich is also an expiring contract so the Carter buyout is not the incentive for Phoenix. The upside for Phoenix is that they get out of the Hedo mistake and pick-up a frontcourt player like Gortat while giving us more cap space for the summer.

It sounds as if a three-way may be in the works with main pieces being Carter and Gortat to Phoenix, Rashard Lewis to Washington, and Arenas to Orlando. If the Suns could somehow pull a couple more building blocks out of this trade and perhaps dump one of our wings than I would be all over this trade.

I'll miss J-Rich, the guy has been awesome with the Suns. However, I don't want him for a long deal and I like the expiring in Carter and the fact we can get rid of the bum Turkoglu.

Gettin rid of J-Rich wont be as bad as many people think. The guy never plays well without Nash.

But I wish the Suns can include Warrick in the deal so it'd be Hedo, Warrick and J-Rich for Bass, Gortat and Carter.

So who would replace JRich as shooting guard next year?

Orlando, FL -- Local 6 Sports Director David Pingalore first reported Friday night that the Magic would make a trade involving Vince Carter by the first of the week.

Pingalore's sources on Saturday are confirming the Magic front office has been behind closed doors all morning.

Sources say Vince is out.

Pingalore's sources are saying the Magic are making a move for Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas.

The team could move Rashard Lewis to Washington for Arenas.

Pingalore has learned from his NBA sources a deal involving multiple teams is in play.

The Magic are trying to work a deal to acquire Phoenix Suns guard Jason Richardson.

It might involve Carter for Richardson and the Magic could get Grant Hill.

Ugh. Grant Hill to Orlando would be one of the lasts things I'd like to see. He still gets booed there, and from a Suns perspective, it would be a HUGE loss. Hill is our best defender, good ball handler and works well with Nash. And why we would want Carter over JRich is a mystery to me. Neither is a very good defender, but I consider JRich better for our offense due to his post-up game. And while Gortat would be nice for Phoenix, he's hardly the solution to our PF/C problems.
Maybe I see it all wrong and Turkoglu's former(?) agent will just try to get him back to Orlando where Turk had had the greatest success in his career. Who cares what happens to the Suns... :(

From Chris Broussard via twitter:

Magic & Suns closing in on deal to send Hedo/jRich to Phx for Vince and Gortat. "90 pct" chance of it happening, sources say. Within 24 hrs

Orlando also close to moving Rashard Lewis to Washington for Arenas and a big to replace Gortat

Jameer Nelson to the bench then? As for firepower, Orlando would be loaded, but why acquire both JRich and Arenas?

ESPN says the deal is believed to include extra players and/or picks, probably coming our way, at least, I'd hope that's what it is.
