Jameer Nelson to the bench then? As for firepower, Orlando would be loaded, but why acquire both JRich and Arenas?

They really want to dump Rashart Lewis, and from what I've read Orlando's GM, Otis Smith has a long relationship with Arenas.

What makes or breaks this trade for the Suns are the pieces included outside of Carter and Gortat. Bass would be unbelievable but unlikely. I think Ryan Anderson is a strong possibility and I wouldn't be surprised if Earl Clark was included in our outgoing package. Maybe if it's a three-way with Washington, we can snag one of their young players like Nick Young. I'd love to get Blatche or McGee, but that's not happening.

Maybe the Suns can then trade Carter before the deadline for picks to a team that is fighting for a playoff spot.

from Broussard!

Full deal: Phx sends Hedo/J Rich/Earl Clark to Orlando for Vince/Gortat/Pietrus, 2011 first round pick and cash considerations, sources say

I imagine there are more moves to come: The Suns trade two rotation players and get back 3 which includes yet another wing in Pietrus. He is expiring though and should be a good bargaining chip down the road.

Sort of. I believe he has a player option next summer. But again, who knows what a potential lockout will mean for him?

Have you noticed that JRich, when he starts hot, disappears in the 2nd half? And, as we've seen, disappears for games at a time. The man projected as our leading scorer this season needs to be a consistent scorer.

I think the trade will upgrade us at the "2" for the rest of this season.

And Gortat will certainly fill our greatest need -- power in the C and PF mix.

I'm looking forward to it.

You can't seriously believe Vince Carter is a better option than Jason Richardson, can you?

This trade does two things, upgrade us a bit at the PF/C position (not much, but some) and dramatically improve our defense.

Expound on that please. Especially my point about JRich not being a leading scorer in the second half following a good first half. And then for games at a time.

You said we upgraded at the 2 for the rest of the season. I don't see how you can justify that, even with your second half comment. He's dependent on Nash, but so is everyone else on our team.

I believe JRich plays to the point of exhaustion for the Suns as he does so many things on the court. He is one of the Suns better inside players not to mention shooting the 3's. The Suns ride him until there is nothing left. IMO, if he didn't have to do carry Phoenix for stretches in the first half, he would be a clutch player in the second half.

+1, hence is resurgence when Amare was playing well. He is definitely an upgrade over Cater for the magic and he is going to get tons of open looks again.

JRich was awesome, I'll miss who I liked to refer to as "NBA2k11 on Easy"

Nope, but he will light up the Bulls for 40 at the end of the season and Phoenix will win by 30. On the bright side, the Bulls can finally beat Orlando.

JRich will be missed even if the Suns play well. JRich brought more to the Suns than I ever imagined and I liked him a lot before he arrived in Phoenix. He always gave the Suns tremendous effort, energy and talent.
