Over 40 runningbacks in 2003 had runs of 40 yards or more. It's logical that 60% of those were for TDs.

But of how many runningbacks had Jerry Sullivan calling the plays?

I think you are making too big of a deal about this. Do you remember the year that Garrison Hearst got 1,000 yards, but ZERO TDs? Hearst went on to have several 10+ TD years after that.

I'm not saying that Shipp would be a TD scoring machine, but he isn't a ZERO TD guy. He's probably more like an 7-8 per year guy if he gets decent playcalling and a decent supporting cast.

I just checked this, and you are correct. Mistake on my part.

And he had 1 TD with 1,000 yards, not 0 like I previously said.

I appreciate it though, I really do.

Keroauc, Shipp never got the ball in the red zone!!! That's when most runners get TD'sl. I can almost guarantee that if they had given him the ball in the red zone he would have scored at least 6 times. Please compare how many times he got to carry the ball in the redzone compared to the players who scored more TD's....

Hey, man, that's YOUR arguement. You look up the splits and prove it. Emmitt Smith had fewer carries and still managed to get into the end zone twice.

I'm sure that, for example, Ahman Green's season-best 98-yard run was for a TD.

Do your own work. I'm not saying that he should have scored MORE TDs. I'm saying that he should have scored ONE touchdown. I remember him getting red-zone carries, but I also remember him fumbling on at least one of those carries. Does that count? Bizarre red zone playcalling or no, there's really no excuse for not breaking one long in 200 carries. That's what above-average NFL runningbacks do.

No, there's a difference between making a provable statement of fact--"Shipp never got the ball in the red zone"--and a statment of opinion--"Shipp should have scored a touchdown among his 200+ carries". When it's possible to back up my opionion with facts (i.e., "18 running backs had FEWER carries than Marcel and scored TDs"), I do. I'm not going to do other people's statistical work for them.

Anytime you want to contibute constructively to the conversation, feel free. Perhaps you'd like to go back to the other thread and logically defend KVB.

Not true, he got the ball 27 times inside the 20, gained 79 yards, no TD's. Last year he got the ball 34 times for 72 yards and 6 TD's. What would be nice to know is how many runs inside say the 5 he had each year, but I don't know where to get that information.

I think you're both right to some extent, he did have an off year, and he was completely misused by Sullivan.

If anybody has a source for 2002 and 2003 red zone stats I'd like to see it.

Iwon.com has the 2003 stats for inside the 10 and inside the 3 but not 2002 that I can find, and of course Shipp having 0 TD's means he's NOT in their top 20, Tomlinson was 6 for 6, Duckett 6 for 7.

Sweet.

Kerauc makes a good point.

Shipp did not have a any TD's last season AND we have yet to se him go through an entire season. Also I forgot about Shipp fumbling, and yes it is ALWAYS on the 1 yard line.

But all backs fumble. Ahmad Green, and Jamal Lewis lost a couple of games for thier teams cause of that.

I aslo agree he lost a step down the stretch but anybody who knows what 1 bursa sack bursting is like, TRY 3. It slows ANYBODY down.

If Smith retires and Anderson leaves. That leaves Schobey and an unproven full timer Shipp.

Point made why we might want to looking into a RB.

Man I love this board.

But I believe Shipp will take it to the next level, and will prove to be a NFL starter! Wouldn't that be nice.

Peace
