I still feel this team is a point guard, a decent center, and some depth away from being a very, very good team.

you do realize that you just said this team is just one pg, one c, and depth away from being very, very good. pg and c being the two most difficult positions to fill on nba rosters. so your statement, even though you prolly didn't mean it this way, says to me that we're a LOOONG way off. just found it humorous.

Do you have any clue at how little talent there actually is on the Magic? It's no wonder that Francis doesn't want to go. As for not getting out of the first round, until this season, Kevin Garnett never got his team out of the first round, did that mean you didn't want him either?

actually, if the trade goes through like they are saying, the Orlando Magic draft of right player (Okafor), and they use their mid-level exception I think the Orlando Magic have plenty of talent to make the playoffs next year.

They make the playoffs in the East. To get to the second round, they still need to pick up a couple players, IMHO. Do you think the same thing Joe? :)

Geee Yuma, I don't think that is necessarily true, but I do respect your opinion. :)

I think it really depends on who they will face. A frontline of Okafor, Gooden, and Cato could be very good in Eastern conference. Their backcourt would also be good. I don't like the idea that they will be giving up Andrew DeClercq though. They'll need some more pieces, but I do believe it's entirely possible that they could make it to the second round next year. It's unlikely however.

I still don't think that makes him the type of player you build a franchise around though. Steve Francis is potentially one of those players whether we like him or not. Did you see what he did in the playoffs? As good as Yao Ming is it was clear that Francis was still the best player on that Houston team.

Do you not see that he does not have to be the focal point of a team?
(how many 20-10 guys are there like that)

This is one of the points I am making in my argument about his value versus Steve Francis'. Complementary players generally do not get paid maximum contracts... at least not recently. They are less valuable in a trade than a guy like Steve Francis who is the focal point of a team, plays a more important position, and garners more fan interest and money.

I agree.

Everyone may dislike Francis but he is still a player who you can build your team around.
He - like Marbury (just more athletic and a better jumpshooter while a worse distributor) - will need the ball in his hands.

That's July 1, right? So if the report was that the trade would be announced after the expansion draft, something fishy is going on.

They can announce it without consumating the deal. Just like the Kidd/Marbury swap. They don't want to announce it until they are positive that all players involved will still on their team.

That's not realistic.

If we were interessted we would have to workout Howard and Okafor before the draft. We haven't and there is not enough time to set up workouts with them. Especially since both of them need to workout for Charlotte now before the draft.

Also the Orlando GM said it would take something very special for them to trade their pick after they held their workouts

I am not at all interessted in moving up into the top2. I would like however to move up to #3,#4,#5 or even just #6 if the Hawks set their eyes on someone we like.

Would you give up cap room in a #7 for #1 trade?

#7 and Dice for

Hill and the #1.

Hmmm.

You'd think that would tempt the Magic a tad. I don't know if I would do it. Its like signin Okafor for $12 million a year, as a rookie.

That's definately not worth it.

I could see us trading up but definately not in the top 2 to select one of the PFs who aren't sure things either and were not worked out by our staff.

No, that would not tempt the Magic a tad.

A player with an expiring contract, like Dice, can not be traded after the end of the season. He can be sign-and-traded with a new contract, but the new contract in a sign-and-trade must be for at least three seasons, which would make it just as bad as Hill’s.
