One of the hottest coaching candidates for 2015 currently works for the Cardinals. But defensive coordinator Todd Bowles isn’t thinking about the future. He’s focused on the present. That was one of the various topics Bowles discussed during a Tuesday afternoon visit to PFT Live, which debuted in Wednesday’s show.
Bowles talks about his philosophy, his biggest coaching influence, what he learned from his time as interim head coach of the Dolphins, his current team’s ability to overcome adversity, and plenty of other stuff that I’ve forgotten but will remember when I watch the interview again. Won’t you please join me?

There is a video of the interview at the above link.

Who wants to volunteer to kidnap him and keep him tied up in their basement until all the HC vacancies are filled this offseason? Take one for the team.

On second thought, a deep playoff run might make some impatient suitors look elsewhere.

Or can we pull a Steelers and name him BA's successor whenever that time comes (many years from now)?

:)

A head coach and DC are 2 totally different jobs. You can be the best DC and the worst head coach. Remember, if he is the HC, he will have a DC calling the shots. I say pay him assistant HC pay and keep him as the best DC in the league and he can take over when BA retires.

Exactly. Just because he's a great DC doesn't mean he can be a good or even average HC.

Rex Ryan is the best DC in the NFL and he's also possibly the worst HC in the NFL. Same with Norv Turner, Ken Whisenhunt etc.

Maybe he'll be a terrible interviewee like Horton. Not a hater though, if there's a good HC job I hope he gets it.

I think we should look at who is going to be fired and try to figure out who would want him. I think the problem that defensive coordinators are going to have getting hired in the future is the fact that in football, offense dominates now.

Rex Ryan- Defensive guy... Do the Jets want to replace a defensive guy with a defensive guy?

Mike Smith- With offensive players like Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, does Atlanta want to go defense again?

Dennis Allen/Tony Sparano- Fire the defensive guy and replace him with one of your offensive guys. The wild card here because, who knows what the Raiders are going to do. You can say 'who would want to go to Oakland to coach?', but its 1 of 32 positions...

Gus Bradley- Defensive guy. I don't think the Jags fire him though, I bet he gets one more year. Even still, if he gets fires, you may want to get a good offensive group in there to try and get that abysmal offense going.

Lovie Smith- Defensive guy. Another guy I don't think gets fired, I think that organization has realized that the problem is the talent, not the coaching. Evidenced by the fact that they traded away some recent high end draft picks.

Marc Trestman- offensive guy. I think this might be the place Bowles ends up if he leaves. Chicago has a tradition of being good on defense. Their defense is awful now. So is there offense this year.

I really like Bowles and want him to stay, but it's the players who make the plays and we've got some absolute studs on defense. We'll be ok.

If he wants to be a head coach, good for him. If he wants to stay a DC, pay the man. Either way, we are better off to have him now.

I'd disagree with this mostly. This is an instance where the system makes the players. Simply because of the talent that's not on the field right now and the fact it's still performing a high level. I like Frostee Rucker, but he's no Dockett. Same with Foote, he is no Dansby or Washington.

The defense has great depth, but the system makes the players in this instance, imo.

I think the Rams could get rid of Fisher. This is his 3rd year and they really haven't improved.

Bowles will get interviews because of the Rooney rule but as another poster said most teams will be looking for a hot offense minded guy to be HC. Popular names include 49ers OC Greg Roman, Seattle OC Darrell Bevell and don't be surprised if the Pats OC Josh McDaniels doesn't got another shot at HC. I also think that Stanford Coach David Shaw is still a hot name as he runs a pro offense.

Look for Kevin Sumlin to get a long look from the Atlanta Falcons should that boat continue to sink.
