1. CLE---Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M. Made to order.

2. SF---Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford. Waiting a year on Kurt Cousins. Will build pass rush first.

3. CHI---Malik Hooker, FS, Ohio St. Harold Jones-Quartey slides down to SS in favor of the best centerfielder prospect in years. Got to slow down Rodgers, Stafford and Bradford.

4. JAX---Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee. Tom Coughlin building elite pass rush.

5. LAC (from TEN)---Jamal Adams, S, LSU. They wanted Hooker and trade up so as not to miss out on Adams. Costs them their 4th rounder.

6. NYJ---Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina. The Biscuit goes to Bowles.

7. TEN---Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford. Adds tremendous versatility and nuance to the fast-emerging offense under Marcus Mariotta.

8. CAR---John Ross, WR, Washington. Their instant upgrade over Ted Ginn, Jr.

9. CIN---Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida St. Breakaway RB they want.

10. BUF---Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan. Upgrades WR spot.

11. NO---Jonathan Allen, DE, Alabama. Rebuilding the defense. BPA steal.

12. CLE---Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson. Starts from day one.

13. AZ---Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech. Has Michael Bidwill's and BA&SK's stamp of approval as QBOF.

* The Jets have been dialed in on Trubisky from day one. The Saints actually are showing interest in signing Johnny Manziel. The Bills are content for now with Tyrod Taylor and Cardale Jones. The Browns could wait until pick #33 on a QB---in favor of drafting TE O.J. Howard or WR Mike Williams. If they go that route, the Cardinals will decide between Watson and Mahomes. My hunch is that they were expecting Watson to be off the board, but are elated to find him still there. Thus the choice would be Watson over Mahomes, unless Mahomes wowed them so much in their private meetings with him that they stay with him all the way.

McCaffrey's not going top-10, nor will he be the first RB off the board. Otherwise this is a viable mock, for my money.

Mitch - I like your originality.

I really have a hard time seeing the Titan's take a RB with Murray, Henry, and other needs at DB and WR.

Oh God no. Name me 1 QB drafted out of Notre Dame in the last 40 years not named Joe Montana who became a viable starter?

This is a tough argument though. Prior to David Johnson and Kurt Warner, name a RB or QB that came out of Northern Iowa? Or QB's from Oregon (Mariotta), Georgia (Stafford), Florida State (Winston), Mississippi State (Prescott), or Wisconsin (Wilson)? Heck...what about Southern Mississippi (Favre)?

There are plenty of examples. You have to judge the player...not the college.

I understand your point. I think McCaffrey is going to go higher than anyone thinks. Murray is getting long in the tooth. Henry is the power RB...McCaffrey is the change of pace RB and fills the slot WR void left by Kendall Wright's defection. There are some scout who believe that McCaffrey is the best receiver in the draft.

Smoke screen, Cards will take QB DeShone Kizer Notre Dame at #13.

Interesting---that BA&SK&MB are all in attendance to visit with Mahomes, while TM is seeing Nate Peterman and none of the above is at ND's pro day to see Kizer. Could the Cardinals' smoke screen been that elaborate?

I think McCaffrey is going to surprise. Top 15 would seem like a lock right now and I will even bet that the 49ers are having conversations about him, even at #2. Imagine McCaffrey in Shanahan's offense---that's made to order.

I love you, Mitch, but this ranks with your crazy 'never going to happen' trade posts. No way would the Whiners even consider him at #2. No way.

I agree...which is why I have them taking Solomon Thomas, but I bet McCaffrey is in the discussion. I read in one of the scouting reports that Shanahan was salivating over watching him yesterday at the pro day.

1. CLE---Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M. Made to order.

Unless there is some mammoth trade down deal this seems to be a lock, but this must be a BPA and not need

2. SF---Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford. Waiting a year on Kurt Cousins. Will build pass rush first.

Another BPA and a lock pick.

3. CHI---Malik Hooker, FS, Ohio St. Harold Jones-Quartey slides down to SS in favor of the best centerfielder prospect in years. Got to slow down Rodgers, Stafford and Bradford.

I still cannot get used to safeties going this high, but it has John Fox written all over it.

4. JAX---Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee. Tom Coughlin building elite pass rush.

Typical dinosaur mentality pick by Coughlin. Trade down would be more logical and grab an OT/RB. Perfect trade down for McCaffery.

5. LAC (from TEN)---Jamal Adams, S, LSU. They wanted Hooker and trade up so as not to miss out on Adams. Costs them their 4th rounder.

Same as above with high pick safety dilemma.

6. NYJ---Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina. The Biscuit goes to Bowles.

Makes total sense. When a team has 3 qbs they have none.

7. TEN---Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford. Adds tremendous versatility and nuance to the fast-emerging offense under Marcus Mariotta.

Wow pick and total sense maker.

8. CAR---John Ross, WR, Washington. Their instant upgrade over Ted Ginn, Jr.

Yup. Need pick. Newton can wing it like the wild man he is. Fits his style.

9. CIN---Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida St. Breakaway RB they want.

Answer to picking 3rd round mediocre backs.

10. BUF---Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan. Upgrades WR spot.

Makes sense and a weapon for Tyrod.

11. NO---Jonathan Allen, DE, Alabama. Rebuilding the defense. BPA steal.

Would not touch him in the 1st round. Bad shoulders and plenty of failed drug tests.

12. CLE---Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson. Starts from day one.

Only if Jackson gets 3 years. Watson could be an interception machine if forced to play early.

13. AZ---Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech. Has Michael Bidwill's and BA&SK's stamp of approval as QBOF.

I will do my happy dance. Perfect learning scenario.

I have heard the rationale that Brian Kelly's offense "sophistication" is one reason Kizer is a future NFL star. I strongly disagree. I don't see this.

We just don't know what is happening in private. Last year the Cards brass flew to LA to have a private meeting with Nkemdiche. We found out about this after they drafted him. The NFL Draft season is (for me) a fun time of the year with all the mock drafts and speculation going on. But BA & SK keep their real feelings very close to the vest. There is a lot of misinformation released from teams. IMO Cards will take a QB but its anyones guess of who and at what round.

Mitch, I really like your draft list and think that you may be pretty accurate on the choices.

McCaffrey will be gone by the time the Cards pick at 13 - or - if he's still there, I wouldn't be shocked if they take him. I'd be quite happy with that pick actually. He would fill SO many needs, and unlike stiffs like RK or Cooper, would be an immediate contributor and impact player. He's definitely climbing everybody's draft board since the combine.

Sure I can when historically they don't produce a viable player at a certain position. For example, traditionally schools like Florida and USC have record setting QB's who's talents rarely translation into the NFL. You have had Heisman Trophy winning QB's from these schools who end up sucking in the NFL. Take USC. Only Carson Palmer and Rodney Peete have ever had any kind of career in the NFL. From Florida, Shane Matthews, Danny Awful, Rex Grossman, and Tim Tebow put up monster numbers at Florida, winning national titles in the process but when it came to the NFL, Grossman is the best of that bunch which should tell you something. There are always exceptions but when you can only name 2 or 3 quarterbacks in the last 60 years or so who ended up being good NFL QB's from Notre Dame means stay the hell away from Notre Dame QB's.

Has any college produced 2+ elite QBs? Or 2+ franchise QBs? This isn't just a rhetorical question. I have no idea.

Stanford: John Elway, John Brodie, Jim Plunkett, Frankie Albert, Andrew Luck and there are others that played in the NFL.
