Interesting---that BA&SK&MB are all in attendance to visit with Mahomes, while TM is seeing Nate Peterman and none of the above is at ND's pro day to see Kizer. Could the Cardinals' smoke screen been that elaborate?

This is not elaborate, it is so simple that it's obvious if it happens. It almost seems like a poorly done smoke screen because if you are targeting a guy ranked in the top five of the position by most boards, you do not completely avoid him in the public eye to draw attention when he actually plays in a style of offense which fits yours which other teams understand... but also mentioned, the Cardinal's smoke screens of late seem to be very direct with them just telling the truth which most teams do not do, this draft is going to be fun

The only monkey wrench is if they wait till the 2nd Rd. pick and try for Webb or wait even longer (3rd?) for Peterman. but they will not be be QBOF's, imo. Maybe decent B/u's.

And the need for #2 CB is still there...so.

But I see getting the young QB in this year as priority 1.

If they're not wowed with an offer then they almost have to pull the trigger on one. Chances of landing a Stafford the next year when they're desperate, almost nil.

No williams or Howard in top 13. Fournette as the third rb off the board and dropping like a rock. I'll be shocked if these come to fruition.

I always love the mental food for thought that Mitch generates, but the creativity often gets the better of his rational thought imo.

McCaffrey will be gone by the time the Cards pick at 13 - or - if he's still there, I wouldn't be shocked if they take him. I'd be quite happy with that pick actually. He would fill SO many needs, and unlike stiffs like RK or Cooper, would be an immediate contributor and impact player. He's definitely climbing everybody's draft board since the combine.

I read an article recently where an NFL scout said that McCaffrey, because of his versatility, would be more valuable to most teams than Leonard Fournette---the analogy is akin to 2 down LBers versus 3 down LBers---McCaffrey is a 3 down RB/WR, whereas Fournette is a 2 down RB.

McCaffrey is now the #5 rated offensive player in the draft (and #15 overall) according to Mel Kiper---and he has Fournette and Dalvin Cook rated ahead of him.

Scouts see his ceiling as a combo Le'Veon Bell/Julian Edelman.

As much as I would like to see them wait, if they think that Mahomes is the guy, then they have to grab him at 13. He has a lot of tools and many of the attributes you want in a QB. Would be nice for the Cards to draft a guy that could be the man for 10-15 years. Whoever they draft Ill hope he is that guy.

More than likely, Jeff. For a couple of reasons: (1) the majority of top shelf prospects in this draft are defensive players; (2) the QBs will go higher than their draft grades would indicate because of need.

Is Howard worthy of a top 13 pick? Yes.

Will someone draft him in the top 13? It's quite possible---in fact, if the Browns decide not to take a QB at #12, I think Howard's their guy.

I think Howard will go before Mike Williams. David Njoku may as well.

We just don't know what is happening in private. Last year the Cards brass flew to LA to have a private meeting with Nkemdiche. We found out about this after they drafted him. The NFL Draft season is (for me) a fun time of the year with all the mock drafts and speculation going on. But BA & SK keep their real feelings very close to the vest. There is a lot of misinformation released from teams. IMO Cards will take a QB but its anyones guess of who and at what round.

Mitch, I really like your draft list and think that you may be pretty accurate on the choices.

Good point on Kizer. Plus there is still over a month before the draft.

So Notre Dame with 1 could actually be on the happy side of the ledger. Then again, haven't they been around since the turn of the century? I don't know. I think it just shows the mile wide chasm between college QBs and pro QBs.

To add to the smoke screen or non-smoke screen, I thought BA's comments were interesting. "I think there are 5 or 6 really good arms in this draft. Whether there are 5 or 6 good QBs, that part's what we gotta find out. And I'm feeling more and more that there are. And there are a couple sleepers that because of their offenses didn't show as much that I think they're capable of." That's real interesting. Joe Theisman was very good qb for the Redskins. He went to Notre Dame. Also Paul Hornung won the Heislman as a running qb for Notre Dame. He made the NFL Hall of Fame as a running back for the Packers in the Lombardi era. However not much to talk about since Montana.
