i'd rather have one side win than both go on for a few more years. i would prefer blu-ray since i have already invested in it, but if HD DVD won i would invest in their player. thats why i wont buy a $98 player right now because it will just prolong the format war.

having 2 formats confuses j6p and will likely cause mass adaptation of HD media to take way longer than it would if only 1 format existed. more adapation = lower prices on software

competition is the only reason we are seeing these drops in prices. If Bluray was the only one around, they would still be over $500.

J6P knows that $98 is a lot different than $499.

Screw BlueRay! I will go HDDVD for $98 but if everything converts to blueray I will live without. No way I am paying 500 to be able to watch HD movies.

i agree $98 is a great deal but what happens when they start using TL51 HD DVD's and the new movies wont play on the old player? theres a reason they are fire selling them for $98.

also, not a huge point but the A2 is only 1080i. if you have a 1080p TV, you have to settle for less quality and the whole thing about HD IS the picture quality.

the ps3's out now are $400 and im sure some BD players will come onto the scene for xmas for $299. not exactly cheap, but still reasonable for HD entertainment.

Walmart had them for $198 last night. I saw the Wal-Mart commercial during The Office.

actually that only includes 1080p for the a20 and xa2 players.

Q1. What does this update do?
A1. This firmware update adds support for 1080p/24Hz output to the HD-A20 and HD-XA2 players. For the HD-A2, HD-A2W, HD-D2, HD-A20 and HD-XA2 players, it adds more on-screen language display options. In addition, this firmware update improves network connectivity for supporting the download of web- enabled network content associated with certain HD DVD discs, and also addresses certain disc playback and HDMI/DVI related issues identified by Toshiba.

its not a huge issue only being 1080i though, i believe only 25-35% of hdtv's in homes are capable of 1080p at this time.

If you wanted it, you should have bought it, and then had them pricematch their own price.

I bet they are sold out everywhere, eventhough they only went on sale an hour ago.

it is even of an issue. The scaler in your TV is probably just as good, if not better than the one in the Toshiba HDDVD players. What that means, is that unless you have a really big TV and sit really close to it, you might not notice any difference at all between 1080i and 1080p from the HDDVD player.

I picked up the last one from Wal Mart Anthem at about 8:30.

I will probably sell my Xbox HD DVD drive now. Decisions, decisions. Will get the extra five DVDs again too, having them sent to my MIL's house.

I sold my 360 player brand new for $135. You should be able to get about $120 for it I think.

That sucks, but since I don't have an HDMI port on my XBOX 360, I'm only pushing 1080i there too. Sucks to have a 1080p and can't get that to it.

The 1080p that I have in the Bluray/PS3 setup, and the 1080i from the Toshiba HDDVD player is very comparable.

Your TV probably does the conversion anyway, right? Basically making it 1080p anyway? Or at least, that's how I understand it.

I just read this on AVS...

"Shrek 3," all five "Harry Potter" films and "The Bourne Ultimatum" will be released by mid- December.

Potters on HD DVD will be mine for sure.

Just picked up the only two titles they had left that I was interested in The Big Lebowski(on Donald's recommendation) and Casino.

However I did pick up one of those 348.00 dollar laptops.

You've never seen Lebowski?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715/

It's one of my favorite movies. Best comedic writing from these guys, IMO.

I got 2 today at the wal-mart at Baseline and country club--

Got there around 8AM-- got the 2nd to last one at 815AM

Now when i get home from work/watching the game, I get to spend 30 minutes updating the firmware

Yay! :thewave:

It also does not come with a HD cable which is baffling. It just came with the standard red, white, and yellow av cable. Weird. How many people will take it home and hook it up wrong?

New movies on a sheet that comes from Sears. AVS forum people just linked it...company at the bottom apparantly does design for Toshiba. They are looking into its authenticity. TMNT and Syriana are added...
I hope thats legitimate. I'd take both of those over anything in those categories. I wish they'd replace the choices in category D (and to a less extent category B). Does anyone know if The Frighteners is any good? Firewall is awful and I don't really like U2.
