What is disgusting is people throwing crap onto the field; I would have ratted them out to.

Now not only will Arizona fans be labeled as apathetic, but also unruly hooligans too. Great.

I was at the game tonight, and while I was disapointed that we were throwing stuff on the field....it was nice to see the fans actually care about the game. I am sure that many if not most of the fans had no idea what actually happened or what they were booing, but from that point on that place was LOUD. There were more chants and just all out yelling going on than I have ever seen at a D-Backs game. So don't let a few idiots who wanted to throw stuff on the field lead you to calling our fans classless. Hopefully that event will be the what gets our fans pumped and loud for games, just hope it doesn't cost us the series.

I'm calling the ones who threw stuff on the field classless. Unfortunately, the people across the country will now think the Arizona fans as a whole are classless.

b-b-buuut we don't have fans...remember?!..

I'm glad we stepped up to the plate and didn't take that BS. I sat in LF, was awesome (crowd-wise), game blowed.

I don't think people will think that. It was a bad call, I don't think it cost you the game, but the booing was understandable. Throwing things was bad news but I think most folks realize it was a handful of people.

Arizona should be more concerned about winning the next game than how their fan base appears to the national audience. The Rockies are on fire right now.

Fans from other cities on various message boards do think that unfortunately. It's okay though. Glad to see the fan base has a pulse.

I don't know if that's representative--the only ones posting at this hour are the ones who care.

I am an Astros fan and I can only speak for myself, but for what it's worth I don't think D-Backs fans are classless at all. Angry, sure, maybe letting rage rule their reason, but not classless.

Well I appreciate that, but you're on this forum probably because you root for a team with the same people who are Diamondbacks fans. The people who know anything know that the fans aren't classless, but I think many do thing they are.

Most of the dozen or so plastic water bottles came from the "cheap seats" way out in the outfield from the upper deck.

There were over 48,000 fans at the game tonight. I think if there had been 48,000 bottles thrown onto the field then we could say Phoenix fans are "classless". That wasn't so much the case though...

Wait...what exactly happened? I was only able to hear the first 2 innings on the radio and after that I was 'watching' the game on my friends iPhone and couldn't get near a tv or radio.

A dozen or so people (my bet is ALL of them 18-35 year old and 3 or more beers into the game) threw empty water bottles on the field. I was there -- it was hardly a storm of debris; I bet maybe 3 dozen stray articles made the field.

On the other hand, about 40,000 people booed the ump until our chests ached, and then kept booing, because (as it turns out, inaccurately) we felt OUR team had been soaped up and screwed.

MAYBE the thing to do is to ban 18-35-year olds from games. Or --- Beer! let's ban beer!

If people want to lump us in with Phillies fans, or Mets fans, whatever. The Easterners call us apathetic, but the crowd tonight was anything but apathetic. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO PROUD OF DIAMONDBACK FANS. I don't tar 40,000 people with the misbehavior of a couple dozen drunks -- that seems idiotic to me. You don't blame all drivers on the road for the behavior of a couple hundred drunk drivers, how is this different?

Why do you all give a flying **** what other people think of Diamondback fans? You think anything we can do will get them to like us? Then what, you'll go all Sally Fields on us? WHY does it matter whether they like or respect us or not -- you work for the Valley of the Sun Chamber of Commerce or something?

We don't sell out, you're embarrassed. We have funny team colors, you're embarrassed. We do the wave, which btw a bunch of 20-something beer-sodden dudes a few rows behind me tried to do mid-game, you're embarrassed. We're apathetic, you're upset and embarrassed. We get boisterous, you're ashamed of us.

What that tells me is some of you people have to validate yourself according to how you think others might judge you, rather than working from an inner sense of self confidence and personal self-esteem.

I am proud of the fans who stood up for their team. After that ******** call on the double play the trash should have rained down. The Clint Hurdle acted like a puss pulling his team out for some trash.

LOL...great post Gee.

Yeah, the Dbacks fans got totally cardinal fans out there...it was awesome. So, some people threw junk on the field for a junk call. It happens. What WAS awesome was the boos for ten minutes straight and the passion the fans showed. We were in the upper deck and booed our asses off. We yelled, we chanted...I felt like I was in the end zone.

I have never seen such passion at a Dbacks game, ever. It was AMAZING. And I was proud of the dbacks fans...who cares if the fans threw some bottles on the field...the yankees, the Red Sox, the Phillies fans would have done the same. It was a garbage call and WHY was Byrnes sent back to second??? I have no clue why that happened...it defies logic. Byrnes was on third, it was a double play ball so he'd be on third regardless, yet they put him back on second? That's a double penalty. Take the bs call and give the double play, but Byrnes should have stayed on third.

Kudos to the crowd...they got angry, loud and showed it as much as they could. It set the tone...don't come to Arizona and think it's cake and roses when you come here...we are a mad, loud bunch. Deal with it. We will take game two. If we make it back to AZ, it will be just as angry and loud a crowd.

Classless my ass...some people threw stuff...ok, but EVERYONE was pissed and booed their asses off. GOOD FOR YOU, DBACK CROWD!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!

That's kind of an oxymoron. How do you have apathetic hooligans?

Rock it out, Dbacks fans...show your anger!!!

GREAT!!! Great indeed. Proud of Arizona Dback fans tonight. Webb, not so proud of him right now. He was terrible. Our ace was not on his game.

Great post, zenny!!!

BTW, I was SHOCKED that they didn't ban beer sales from that point on. SHOCKED. I think I recall that when AW kicked the SF dude in the head for his second personal foul call of the night a few years back at SDS when the crowd let a TON of debris rain on the field, that they banned beer sales. I may be wrong, but I think that is what happened.

And you know what, after that show of fan booing force, Francis was rattled and cold and was taken out shortly after. Good job fans....bring it again, and again...and again!!!

Yeah Chris!! I'm proud too!! I felt like I was at a Cards game yelling for my section to keep up the boos...keep raining the boos down on the umps...let them hear our anger and let them know that this is the PLAYOFFS and it is no time for bullcrap questionable calls. Fans were mad..they were loud and most importantly, they were RIGHT!!!

Totally with you, Donald, Chris. (Hurdle, btw, never said he pulled his team out of fear for safety -- he was TOLD by the umps to get them off the field for awhile, and then Tim McClelland told him to take the field and have his pitcher 'work through it.' Hurdle only said, 'You know ---it was at a point where enough is enough.' )

Webb was NOT sharp, but why would we think that a guy with a 5.7 ERA vs. the Rockies this year would be great against them? I adore Webby, but frankly he has never seemed to have the sheer will to focus like a true Ace -- like a Johnson or Schilling in their prime where the more pressure, the greater the performance. Many times, he has seemed to get a bit shaky under heightened pressure and scrutiny.

It's up to Doug Davis now, ERA vs. Rockies in 2007 of 3.18. And Livo, ERA of 1.54. How weird is that? Maybe 'Ace' is sometimes situational.

btw, bottom of the 7th, beer tap had already been turned off.

That is just even MORE awesome. I could tell from the uppers that the umps were perturbed at the situation...the guy who made the call at second stood hands on hips and then crossed arms as the boos rained down on HIM. He was not a comfortable man.

Again, I've never, EVER been more proud of AZ fans for their passion. They took a situation where they clearly got screwed and DID. NOT. STAND. FOR. IT. It was amazing.

Byrnes afterwards said that it was not good that things got thrown on the field, but "I can not say anything bad about our fans showing passion." Abomb and I were giddy in the car ride home when he said that on the radio. You KNOW the team really liked every bit of that display...they enjoyed the fans coming to their defense.

Let's hope it carries over.

And I didn't know Livan had that kind of success against the Rocks...wow. He'll be pitching in Coors...so I hope that holds up in that t-ball field. And I hope Micah has the playoff gumption that I think he just might. We get this one tomorrow, and we just might find ourselves in a dogfight the rest of the series.

I think the winner of this series wins the title...I really do. And I know a Rockies scout really well, so I'll be hard pulling for the NL team regardless of the winner of the series. I just hope to hell it is the Dbacks...

Agree 100%, just not good enough at writing to explain it. Thank you for putting my thoughts in words (I will still give you credit for it though).

I agree, it was awesome to see the fans care about their team. Like I said in my earlier post, I bet alot of people didn't know what EXACTLY happened....but they still knew it went against their team. I didn't throw anything, cause I know better....but I don't think I would have sold out any fans that did it. I was proud of our fans tonight, those last 2.5 innings was as loud as I have ever heard that place. Like you said, hopefully it carries over....I don't have much of a voice left, but I will use the rest of it up tomorrow night.

I didn't throw anything because in the uppers, I just would have hit dback fans. So instead I went Cards endzone crazy on them and kept our section rocking every time they wanted to just stop booing.

Get loud...get PROUD!!! :D
