If KG isnt the guy they are picking up then forget it and still i don't know KG would fit in at all.

Marion traded in his Hummer for a Dodge Ram. Huge deal.

Why would they think about moving such a key piece when the team is winning? If it isnt broken, dont fix it.

The deal was Marion for God.

I don't know... I think I'd keep Marion.

I just listened to chanel 10 and they mentioned it again.
Shawn Marion for ??? A deal was proposed and on the table, but I did not hear for who.

They said Shawn heard about it before the game and was upset, and fired up to play well tonight.

Then they should spread rumors about Marion more often. This was probably the best game he's ever played.

Yeah, maybe KG wants out of T-Wolves and any team just makes some offers...

Jude LaCava said some member of the Fox 10 sports crew heard a deal was discussed earlier today sending Marion to Minnesota for KG. Another team, apparently, was involved.

I tried it straight up (knowing what the outcome would be). Here's what Trade Machine says:

The Suns are over the cap, and their incoming salaries are greater than 125% plus $100,000 of their outgoing salaries. They need to cut $775,000 from the incoming trade value to make this trade successful.

I figger if this trade were real, it would also include James Jones or Jimmy Jackson's aging contract. I plugged both of them in just to check. It worked.

My guess? Suns office took a phone call and listened to someone else's pipe dream. Suns staff paused for a moment -- Kevin Freakin Garnett! -- then thought better of it and decided to pass.

Kevin Garnett, Amare Stoudemire, Steve Nash on one team. Well we can dream..

Marion, those picks we got for JJ and Jimmy Jackson it would still be a steal and Minnesota wouldn't do it unless they simply can't get anything better but need to trade KG.

No way in hell Phoenix is the team that passed up that deal. This is KG we're talking about. I love marion, but KG is twice the player Marion could ever dream of being.

If it was Marion + Diaw I might still have to do that. Or Marion/Barbosa/Jones and picks.
If Amare comes back to 100% we could have the best trio in the history of the league until Nash is done.

I really like Marion but KG is pretty close to being a perfect basketball player as far as talent and charisma is concerned.

I'm gonna call BS on this entire thing. LaCava claims a member of the sports department heard......That could have been an intern at the game who heard someone talking that had no credible info. I just don't see it happening. If it does though I'll welcome KG in with open arms and welcome a championship to Phoenix in June.

I wouldn't go that far. Marion is quicker and he's pretty good at making his quickness count. He also seems to have a better attitude. Even though Marion grumps when he thinks he isn't getting the proper respect, Garnett never looks content, even when he's winning. And we don't hear about Marion getting into arguments with teammates all the time.

Garnett is better than Marion, but I'm not sure that swapping them straight up would make the Suns a better team.

I'd be satisfied with a backup point guard.

Not me. The Suns died in last year's playoffs because of a lack of depth. Ship out two players in the core -- never mind three -- and they're facing the same problem.

If it's Marion and Diaw:

C - Thomas/Stoudemire
PF - Stoudemire/Garnett
SF - Garnett/Jones
SG - Bell/Barbosa
PG - Nash/House

That's paper-thin, and it requires either Barbosa or House to be a lot more consistent than either has shown so far. Basically it would be a seven-man rotation with Jones and whichever of Barbosa/House is screwing up less. Replace Diaw with Jones/Barbosa and it's even worse.

They interviewed Marion after the game:

Reporter: Did tonights performance have anything to do with the trade rumors with you and Minnesota?

Marion: Oh, you guys heard about that huh?

Reporter: Yah

Marion: Something about how it sucks, but it is part of the business. He said he is all about this team, and doing what it takes to win.

In other words, the rumor is legit

I liken Marion to a Scottie Pippen without a jump shot. He is just as good defensively as Pippen, if we only had a Jordan, wait we have Amare. I like Marion because he does it all and just out hustles guys for rebounds he should get more respect and pub IMO. The KG rumor has no credibility.

Not to be obvious, but how could the Suns possibly be considering a Marion/Garnett swap when their general manager already has one foot out the door? What's Colangelo going to do, make the trade and then skip town before it blows up in his face? What would the point of that be?

I wonder who's taking calls in the front office tonight. Someone has to be looking over Colangelo's shoulder to make sure he doesn't do anything bizarre.

I'm with you, E. Garnett's a Top 5 player, but in this case I have my doubts he is a "plug-and-play" winner. That's not even considering what the Suns would have to give up elsewhere to land him. Furthermore, it depletes depth and, as one scout recently said, it looks like Garnett's "pilot light is off" this year.

They have much more pressing needs. If the Suns were going to do a deal with Minny, I'd hope it'd be for Marcus Banks.
