Doesn't make sense.

We don't need a scorer which is what Collins wants to do, and that leaves us with no Center.

I would much rather do Capella and Bey over that.
Capella/Bey seems like a great deal.

I have no problem having conversations with teams about Ayton just as long as keeping Ayton is a realistic option. If we are having a firesale, it doesn't make sense. New coach, new mix, maybe a new Ayton. There is too much potential there with him to just dismiss it completely.

If we can make a trade that definitely makes the team better, fine.
I agree. It would be ridiculous to trade him just for the sake of dumping him... in spite of a few posters here advocating that. He's a real asset and should be able to fetch at least a couple useful pieces. If not, just keep him and have the new coaching staff try and rehab his game (and probably his trade value in the process).

I mostly agree, but I do think the acquisition of a clear number 3 option over Ayton makes it even less likely that we will get the type of effort from him that we want. Maybe he will buy in to being a mostly defensive/rebounding big, but I would feel more comfortable betting that he won't. I just don't see him getting the kind of touches he very likely wants.

Maybe. Don't know for sure. When has Ayton ever complained about not being "the guy"? Seems like he has been a player in search of an identity.

Or a player that really doesn't like basketball that much aside from the checks.

I am under no illusion that Vogel is a magic worker, but the potential of Ayton means it is worth a shot. These younger players are an odd bunch. They need to mature and at some point Ayton will mature.

I would be having this conversation with him.

"DA, look at our roster. We have three 25-point scorers. We do not need big points from you night in and out. We will need offensive production from you at specific times when we are struggling or late in games. What we do need is a defensive anchor, and shot blocker. We know you are capable of filling the Bill Russell role for us. You can be a league leading rebounder, interior passer, and shot blocker. If you commit yourself to this, we will win big and you have a shot at an all-star game. You can be for us what Draymond has been for Golden State only better.

Are you in for this, or do you want us to trade you? It's up to you."

It's a bit vague but his answers in his exit interview seemed to be all about expanding his role on offense. Not necessarily more touches, but being used in more ways. Depends how you want to read into what he's saying.

Sometimes you're the hammer and sometimes you're the nail. DA is the wood on most nights.
I've heard this kid say lots of things about dominatyon and batteries and anchoring defenses.
I'm not listening anymore. I don't care if he stays or goes.

yup. He's talking about playing further away from the basket. Spacing out the floor (shooting more jumpers), making space for me to drive (more offense for him... that he's shown zero ability to do).

making him a distant 4th option will make an already frustrated guy with a penchant for quitting on plays, if not entire games, completely check out.

I think if you can get a clear 4th and 5th starter you trade Ayton. If it's just trading Ayton, who is our number four Starter for another number four starter, and that guy isn't clearly better, then it's a moot point. You almost need to get two starters for Ayton.

If you can get a 4th and 5th starter for him you jump at the deal. More likely, the best we can hope for is a pair of decent bench players (Torrey Craig level).

I don't see how we could possibly get him in that case.

I don't even want to speculate on how the new CBA works. Ayton and Payne would work under the old rules.

Maybe the 76ers send some draft picks.

I mean Harris would be a really good 4th option, but what is the plan at center?

I don’t actually hate this idea, I just want to know the answer to that question.

He is in clear decline. Other than shoot threes, he doesn't do anything well.
His numbers still look pretty good to me. We don’t need him to do much more than 3 & D and he was still a plus defender last year.

Maybe our interest in a deal like that means a couple decent centers might have said they would have interest in coming here for the minimum.
