I keep hearing that the Hawks want to trade Smith to save money because they're gonna have Smith Johnson and Horford all making huge dollars next year.

Why not Horford for Nash? Since he's not even playing this is like adding an All Star for nothing. They could let Nash go at the end of the year and save money or try and re-sign him.

This trade makes the Suns horrible and gets them into the top 10 in the draft. Then next year they have Horford and a top 10 rookie. If they finish say 8th worst they could luck out and win a top 3 pick?

Actually, I like Smith better. He would play sf for us. He is a decent all around player, (defense and offense). He would fit nice with Gortat and either Frye or Kieff at PF. We would need a pg in free agency or the draft and a scoring 2.

Well, we have six days to find out. Personally I do think there are possibilities as teams guage their chances for this [strange] year and
evaluate what Nash is worth as a rental, with the possibility of re-signing. But the return won't be that big, so really I think the only way the Suns do it is if Nash is clear that he won't re-sign with Phoenix, and wants to go elsewhere. Otherwise I'd speculate that the Suns would rather lose him in free agency (while making a token effort to retain him) than trade him. If the return is someone who doesn't pan out or an expiring contract, I think they fear the negative fan reaction to that.

This is not a Nash trade. Josh Smith wants out. From what I gather from Atlanta boards, ATL does not feel they have much leverage. They like Lopez and they like Duds. So,

Childress, Dudley and Lopez for Josh Smith. I think ATL would bite on this one.

Pick up a 2 in free agency and whatever we can in the draft.

I'd be surprised if they would make that deal. I'd loved to be surprised though. I find it hard to believe that any club would place a positive value on Lopez but I'd jump at a deal like this if someone was seriously interested on Robin.

They do really like Dudley too.

I know its not likely but Smith is putting Atl in a tough spot right now.

Even so, they will certainly get better offers than that. And why would they want Childress back? They had a chance to keep him and they passed. And he's done nothing in the two years in Phoenix to make them question their decision.

The best the Suns could do would be Lopez, Dudley, Morris + future 1st (lottery protected). That probably wouldn't be enough either.

If the Hawks were to turn down that offer, more power to them. That's a pretty good haul for Smith, who is good but not that good. I wouldn't like that trade for the Suns, because they'd be giving up four of their better young assets. Then you'd basically have Smith and cap space, which isn't the makings for any sort of decent or even interesting team.

ATL views Smith sort of at the same level that the Suns did JRich before the Gortat trade, with the exception that Smith is asking for a trade.

I believe he is FA in 2013 as well, so that figures into his value.

Oh man yeah. But how are we getting Davis?

What? I have to think of everything? It was my genius idea to pair him with Gortat, I'll leave the minor details up to the guys who get paid to do stuff like that.

I think they will keep nash to sell tickets and make a playoff push. then in free agency I think nash will leave to another team. just my opinion now, but if the suns get an offer that they can't refuse they should not think twice about pulling the trigger because he is old.

I'd take Horford for Nash over Smith. Horford can sit the rest of the year, we can tank it and next year Horford is more of a traditional PF while Smith is a gimmick player who can't give you post offense at the PF spot and since Gortat is not a good post player I don't think pairing him with Smith is a great idea.

I'd love to see Horford on the Suns but I don't think that trade would ever happen.

Why would Atlanta give up the clearly best player in the deal and at the same time take one of the worst contracts in the NBA who left them on bad terms to top it off?
