The Cardinals have only drafted a QB once in the first round (excluding Leinart this year). Who was the QB taken?

Trivia

I remember Neil Lomax being taken in the 2nd Round, I believe EJ Junior was the 1st round in the same year and he (NL) turned out great. Heard somewhere that Lomax' son was the backup QB at Boise State, and performed the Statue of Liberty hand off in the Fiesta Bowl. I saw the game but didn't remember the announcers mentioning any connection to NL. Did anyone?

Cards drafted Joe Namath in the first round in 1965. Unfortunately he signed with the Jets in the AFL. There were also qbs drafted by the Cards in the first round in the early 60's and 50's. I think Second Deck is most likely referring to the Arizona/Phoenix Cards.

What about King Hill (1958), George Izo (1960), Joe Namath (1965), Steve Piczarewiecz (1967)?

Piczarcawitz was drafted in the 70s. My grandma took me to watch him play in 76 or 77 when he was still with Mizzou. Both my dad and grandma are huge Mizzou fans.

Yup, the guy could throw the ball through a brick wall and unfortunately he threw every pass like he was trying to. One of the bigger gaffs in Cardinal drafting history which is legendary for its incompetence.

Like I said I get the questions from a calendar my friend got and I left the question at work. So we Will say it was the AZ cards. There are several from the 40's. A name I remember was Dub Jones. Anyone remember him.

His rookie year was Coryell's last wasn't it PJ? I wonder who was the QB coach back then?

I think the Boise regular QB ran that play, not Lomax.

Bud Wilkenson was headcoach. He was a disaster. Cards used to draft a lot og guys from Mizzou in those days.

He was a RB for the Cleveland Browns when Otto Graham was their qb. Didn't know he was a qb in college.

Actually after I researched it, Pisarkiewicz was the Cards first round draft pick in 1977 which was Coryell's last season as HC for 'da Cards. Wilkinson's 2 1st round picks when he was HC were Steve Little and a guy by the name of Ottis Anderson.

So Pisark's first year was under Don. Seems like there were rumors going around then that Don was not happy with the pick and wanted to go Defense with that pick instead. It would be intersting to see who the QB coaches were for the short duration of P's career.

The way I heard it, Coryell wanted us to draft LB Robin Cole instead of Pisarc and left the Cardinals over that very issue.

Yep you could be right on that Jeff. My understanding was that his preference was for Defense. That may have been the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.
