This certainly explains why this organization is in the shape it's in. Add to this the player survey placing the Cardinal organization at the bottom of the list for facilities and you have a recipe for failure. Can we say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree?

Clearly the leader is a jerk and a lousy boss and attention needs to continue to be generated regarding the workplace there but the article felt more like a hatchet piece than an exposé. Too much "it felt like", too few hard facts.

Yup, the only "hard facts" in there are things like "Michael swore at Roy Minegar for his DUI".

95% of it is feels.

No doubt Bidwill is a dick but there's nothing in it that hasn't been heard a dozen times.

I'll say this...Michael didn't have a good mentor (Bill Sr.), growing up in the family business. He was never given a good example to follow, on how to treat people. I truly hope his words aren't hollow and he's really learning from his past mistakes.

Meh. All old news. Nothing in here that's post covid. Most of it 4 years old.

And they kinda lost me when they thought not having a dedicated room for nursing mothers was a big deal. Who has that?

I would say the majority of companies with the revenue stream of the Cardinals do

Heck, even our company does

Yeah it's pretty common but I don't know how big of a deal this is as the article isn't very clear. I know it can't be in a bathroom but "an area near the showers" tells us very little. Did the organization actually designate an area or are women just finding space where they can? Does it allow for privacy? Does it have a table, chair and sufficient space? And, if it's not in step, is it still going on or has it been resolved as legislation continues to address this for workplaces?

You really need to go back and re-read the article. Most of it is based on first hand experience of employees. Not sure what else you need to as to hard facts.

Very little of it is "Michael did this specific thing" or "They had this specific rule".

Nearly all of it is "I felt this" or "We felt we couldn't do that". The article every quote the Cards FO saying that these "unwritten rules" were misconceptions.

The US is weird man. I've never heard of this anywhere in the UK or Europe.

I just looked it up and the US Gov website says,

"No employer is required by law to provide a permanent lactation room, although many do. If you don't have space for a permanent room, consider using an existing office, closet, or storage area on an as-needed basis, screening off an area in a larger space, or providing a car windshield cover or a single-person pop-up tent."

So I have no idea why the article is complaining that women only had a disused office.

There's no defending a lot of this stuff. The head of this organization is rotten and it infects everything.

I'd be bothered if it was recent but it's not. And Bidwill isn't going anywhere so why waste my time hand wringing over old news?

We have a new GM and coaching staff. They will set much of the culture. I don't expect it to be the same going forward.

I don't think there's any doubt that there have been (and still are) real problems there and it all starts at the top. I just think it was a wimpy article with no real meat and it brought nothing new to light. A lot of second hand and "it feels like" scattered throughout the article.

I couldn't even finish the article. A website like The Athletic lets its content go out with that type of formatting, text taking up the entire page real estate etc? Terrible.

I think it's pretty obvious when EVERYONE AT ALL LEVELS OF THE ORGANIZATION, from former execs, to players, to back office nobodies all have terrible things to say about MB and the culture.

The Bidwill family is an absolute curse - not only are they horrible owners, they infect the entire building with their nastiness.

It's hilarious the same people continue to minimize and downplay what is going on there - MULTIPLE articles talking about what a trash culture and environment it is.

No doubt. I just felt like the article was presented as if it were investigative journalism and it mostly just rehashed what we already know. I want to know if things are the same today as they were when this information went public. Just adding more "I was unhappy because" comments with no context and nothing specific about when this happened didn't impress me.

US:
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides certain employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave per year.

UK:
Eligible employees can take up to 52 weeks' maternity leave. The first 26 weeks is known as 'Ordinary Maternity Leave', the last 26 weeks as 'Additional Maternity Leave'.


Every office job I've had included a "Mother's Room". The fact it is not required by law has no bearing when comparing and contrasting good employers vs bad employers, though I guess not violating labor laws is quite the feather in the teams cap.
